Primary Purpose

Direct and manage the agricultural science program for assigned campus. Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Candidates should possess strong work ethic, be self motivated, goal driven and passionate in delivery of course content and FFA activities. Knowledge of Ag Content a must. Assignment could include (but not limited to) one or more sections of Ag Mech/Welding. Willingness to serve as one of three FFA / Jr FFA Advisors while demonstrating: solid communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Possess ability to impact students and build relationships through FFA and Jr FFA activities. Train multiple successful LDE, CDE & SDE teams. Knowledge of record books, degrees, applications. Engage, advise and supervise SAE projects of all types traditional and beyond at county and major stock shows. Candidates should possess knowledge, commitment and interest, in developing student leaders through camps, conventions, chapter, and community activities. Assist with development of strong POA. Expectations will require early mornings, late nights, and weekends.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

Bachelor's degree from accredited university

Valid Texas teaching certificate

Demonstrated competency in agricultural science

CDL w/ Bus Driver Endorsement

Special Knowledge/Skills

Knowledge of agricultural science and technology

Knowledge of curriculum and instruction

Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior

Ability to supervise agricultural field experiences

Ability to manage budget and personnel

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience

One year student teaching or approved internship

Pay Grade: S1 ($55,000-$65,000)

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Instructional Strategies

  • Oversee Supervised Agricultural Experience Program (SAEP), including assisting students in selecting and managing projects and supervising school farm.
  • Serve as advisor to local Future Farmers of American (FFA) chapter, including planning and conducting leadership, citizenship, cooperative, career development, and competitive activities for students at local, regional, and state level.
  • Assist with planning and delivery of adult education and community programs relating to agricultural science and technology.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.

Student Growth and Development

  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Be a positive role model for students and support mission of school district.

Classroom Management and Organization

  • Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Accompany and supervise students at all off-campus activities including contests, workshops, and field trips associated with the agricultural science program and FFA.
  • Oversee maintenance of program related facilities and equipment including school farm.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

Communication

  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.

Budget and Inventory

  • Develop and administer budget based on documented program needs and ensure that operations are cost effective and funds are managed wisely.
  • Coordinate fundraising activities and manage funds.
  • Maintain current inventory of all fixed assets related to the program.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.

Environment: Work outside and inside; exposure to extreme temperatures (hot, cold, and inclement weather), humidity, and prolonged sunlight; exposure to biological hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; work around moving objects or vehicles; work on uneven or slippery surfaces; work around animals; may work alone; frequent districtwide and statewide travel
