Job Title:
College & Career Planning Internship Coordinator
Purpose:
The College & Career Planning Coordinator and Internship Coordinator assists administration with all Carl Perkins and state-approved vocational programs while coordinating all aspects of work-based learning and internships. This position enhances post-secondary and career planning services through counseling support at Seaman High School, preparing students for success in college, the military, and the workforce.
Responsible to: High School Principal
Classification of Employment: Exempt
Contract Term: 200 days
Start Date: July 2024
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree from an accredited college/university.
- Vocational teaching experience in secondary schools.
- Experience in coordinating internship and work-based learning placements.
- Valid Kansas teaching license.
- Counselor and/or administrative endorsement preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Desire to continue career improvement.
Essential Functions:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Provide professional leadership in organizing, administering, supervising, and evaluating the career and technical education (CTE) needs of the district.
- In conjunction with administration, assists with compliance of all programs with federal, state, and local guidelines, including Carl Perkins grants in conjunction with district and building administration.
- Build and maintain relationships with local businesses and employers to facilitate internships, apprenticeships, and work-based learning experiences.
- Support integration of CTE and academic programs to ensure students achieve both academic and technical competencies.
- Identify and coordinate staff development in academic and CTE pathways in conjunction with district and building administration.
- Assist building and district staff with career and technical education program integration and improvements.
- Develop opportunities for equitable participation of special population students in career and technical education pathways.
- Coordinate and evaluate annual CTE programs, including performance and post-secondary outcomes in conjunction with district and building administration.
- Expand recruitment and awareness for Washburn Tech with sophomore students.
- Collaborate with counselors, advocates, and special education staff to identify and assist students with individualized planning and support.
- Collaborate with Career Advocates to ensure the career advocacy programs are meeting the needs of students.
Work-Based Learning and Internship Responsibilities:
- Design and Manage Work-Based Learning Programs:
- Plan, coordinate, and evaluate internships and other work-based learning opportunities using the Kansas Work-Based Learning Continuum and student Individual Plans of Study (IPS).
- Develop and maintain worksite agreements, including safety, liability, and attendance compliance.
- Provide structured pre-placement training (e.g., resume writing, interview prep, workplace etiquette).
- Track Student Success and Program Outcomes:
- Maintain accurate records of student internship placements, progress, and credits.
- Track credit accumulation in CTE pathways from grades 8-12.
- Conduct ongoing evaluations of student performance, feedback, and job skills assessments.
- Ensure regular worksite visits and student reflections.
- Community Partnerships:
- Establish Advisory Committees for CTE pathways with input from local industry professionals in conjunction with district and building administration.
- Host an annual Community Engagement Night to connect students, parents, educators, and community partners.
College & Career Planning Responsibilities:
- Assist students with college, military, and workforce preparation:
- Job searches (including part-time jobs for students and post-graduation opportunities).
- Resume creation, interview skills, and scholarship/financial aid applications.
- Post-secondary planning and interest inventories.
- Develop opportunities for alumni to connect with current students to share post-graduation experiences and guidance.
- Expand paid work experience placements and credit opportunities to enhance student engagement and workforce readiness.
- Offer College and Career Planning Center Hours during CLP or homeroom periods to provide individualized support for students across all grade levels.
General Responsibilities:
- Work closely with high school and middle school counselors, staff, and administrators to promote post-secondary and workforce planning.
- Support students in identifying CTE pathways aligned with their career goals.
- Maintain records of post-secondary outcomes for Seaman graduates.
- Coordinate articulation agreements for high school programs with higher education institutions.
- Serve as a liaison with business, industry, and community organizations to enhance work-based learning and college readiness opportunities.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
- Ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods.
- Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.
- Ability to travel for site visits and professional responsibilities.
- Flexibility to work occasional irregular hours.
Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated annually by the High School Principal in conjunction with the Executive Director of Teaching and Learning.
