Credit Analyst Role Overview
The Credit Analyst plays a key role in achieving the goals of Seamen’s Bank's Commercial Loan Department, focusing on revenue and portfolio growth, asset quality, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Credit Analysis: Collaborate with commercial lenders to assess and manage credit risk in the loan portfolio by analyzing financial statements, tax returns, and credit reports.
- Loan Documentation: Prepare comprehensive credit memoranda for new loans, renewals, modifications, and extensions, and identify any loan policy exceptions along with mitigating factors
- Risk Management: Ensure accurate risk ratings for borrowers by consulting with the Senior Vice President of Commercial Lending
- Data Collection: Work with loan officers to gather necessary financial information, maintain tracking systems for financial data and loan covenants, and request updates from borrowers
- Portfolio Support: Assist in the administration of the commercial loan portfolio and contribute to in-house real estate evaluations
- Compliance Knowledge: Stay informed about bank credit policies, state laws, and lending regulations relevant to commercial loans
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with a minimum of 18 credit hours in accounting or finance
- Experience: 2-4 years in banking or related credit/accounting roles, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Analytical Proficiency: Strong ability to read and interpret financial data, professional journals, and legal regulations
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal skills for reports and customer interactions
- Problem Solving: Effective analytical and reasoning skills
- Organizational Abilities: Detail-oriented with strong time management skills
- Interpersonal Skills: Capable of working independently and collaboratively, maintaining confidentiality, and handling sensitive information
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with computer systems and Commercial Loan Origination Software (LOS)
