Job Overview :

The EHS Director is responsible for developing and implementing environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This leadership role involves promoting a culture of safety, mitigating risks, conducting training, and driving continuous improvement across facilities in Livermore, CA, Hayward, CA, and Loveland, CO. The EHS Director will collaborate closely with production leadership and other stakeholders to build a world-class safety program and foster a proactive EHS culture.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Partner with production leadership and executive management to develop strategic safety initiatives aimed at reducing workplace injuries and promoting a positive safety culture.
  • Lead and coach employees on safety and environmental compliance, acting as an advisor for managers and production staff.
  • Develop, enforce, and monitor compliance with EHS procedures, policies, and programs to create a safe work environment.
  • Investigate workplace injuries and accidents, determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Manage emergency response plans, conduct evacuation drills, and oversee the Emergency Response Team.
  • Conduct EHS audits and inspections, identifying safety concerns and collaborating with department leaders to implement solutions.
  • Serve as a liaison with regulatory agencies, ensuring compliance with all relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Monitor safety metrics, analyze KPIs, and implement plans to improve performance and address negative trends.
  • Maintain EHS documentation, including OSHA programs, regulatory records, and SOPs, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Coach, mentor, and manage the EHS team, fostering a culture of accountability and safety excellence.
  • Collaborate with HR to develop and implement safety training programs for all employees.
  • Work with Continuous Improvement and Manufacturing Engineering teams to develop environmental sustainability strategies and initiatives.
  • Facilitate monthly safety training sessions, safety committee meetings, and executive leadership safety reviews.
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies and provide backup coverage for the on-site doctor when needed.

Requirements Include :

Education :

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field (preferred).
  • Experience :

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive safety experience, preferably in a heavy manufacturing environment.
  • At least 5 years of demonstrated EHS leadership experience.
  • Skills :

  • Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other relevant software.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present effectively to various levels of the organization.
  • Certifications :

  • Professional certifications such as ASSE, NFPA CESCP, National Safety Council, BCSP, OSHA 30, CPR, and First Aid are a plus.
  • Knowledge :

  • In-depth understanding of EHS best practices, OSHA compliance, and safety training programs.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and monitor effective EHS strategies in a manufacturing environment.
  • Key Competencies :

  • Leadership : Strong ability to lead, coach, and mentor employees at all levels.
  • Communication : Effective verbal and written communication skills for engaging with employees and stakeholders.
  • Problem Solving : Analytical and detail-oriented with strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Collaboration : Ability to work closely with cross-functional teams and build positive relationships.
  • Proactivity : Self-motivated and able to work independently, proactively addressing issues and managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Additional Information :

  • Work Environment : Ability to lift up to 25 lbs., conduct inspections, and carry equipment as needed. The role requires regular sitting, standing, walking, and occasional kneeling or squatting.
  • Travel Requirements : Occasional travel between facilities in Livermore, Hayward, and Loveland.
