What are the responsibilities and job description for the Executive Director position at Searchlight New Mexico?
Searchlight New Mexico, an award-winning nonprofit news organization dedicated to investigative reporting in the interest of New Mexico families and residents, is looking for an executive director to help us carry out our mission and lead us to long-term sustainability. Now in its seventh year, Searchlight operates on an annual budget of around $1 million and is blessed with an outstanding editorial staff. But there is work to be done to build its back-office operations, expand funding sources, and grow audience and membership rolls. We’re looking for a leader with experience selling the importance of great reporting to potential donors inside and outside the traditional journalism funding world. At the same time, the executive director will be responsible for building an operation that can continue to grow its budget and staff to meet and expand our journalistic mission. Our goal is to be the leading source of high-impact investigative reporting in New Mexico.
The Executive Director is the chief executive officer of Searchlight New Mexico, and is hired by and reports to the Board of Directors. The Executive Director is responsible for setting and meeting financial goals, and works with the Executive Editor to make sure Searchlight meets its mission to produce investigative journalism that affects public policy in New Mexico.
