JOB TITLE:  Secondary Educational Assistant – Special Education, 1.0 FTE (2 positions)

REPORTS TO:  Building Principal and Classroom Teachers

 

JOB SUMMARY: To assist classroom teachers with individual and/or small group learning in special and general education classrooms and provide student supervision as needed. Staff will be asked to support students with a variety of needs, which could include academic, social, functional and behavioral supports. A primary focus is the establishment of a positive learning environment that promotes a high level of achievement and inclusion for all students.  Full job description available upon request.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Criminal history clearance (background check and HB 2062).
  3. Basic computer/technology skills.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Ability to meet Highly Qualified Paraprofessional standards (2 years of college, Associates degree or pass WorkKeys skills test).
  2. Prior successful experience working in a school setting.
  3. Spanish speaking skills desired.

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Self-starter who is able to take minimal guidance, as well as, work as a team member.
  2. Organized, patient, neat, and kind in working with students with disabilities.
  3. Creative and versatile in terms of working with students with disabilities.
  4. Ability to maintain patience in stressful situations.
  5. Ability to be physically active.
  6. Ability to treat information confidentially.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENTReports all days that student are in attendance.  Based on current OSEA salary schedule and negotiated agreement, salary (Code 8, $16.77 - $19.37), at 0.94 FTE.  Excellent benefits including Medical, Dental, Vision insurance and Oregon State retirement.  Paid time off includes once sick day per month and two personal days, pro-rated per school year.  Starts as soon as possible.   Benefit information can be found at https://www.seaside.k12.or.us/hr/benefits.
