This position is primarily responsible for directing and coordinating activities of the
Engineering/Programming Department to design products and systems, maximize efficiency
and meet schedule objectives by performing the following duties at two facilities in the
Chicagoland area: SCI Custom (Joliet, IL) and Ameriscan Designs (Bellwood, IL).

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Directs and coordinates activities of the engineering/programming departments
    including managing and meeting schedule objectives and time frames, ensuring a
    quality product and maintaining efficiencies.
  • Develops and implements strategies that improve the overall process from initial job
    handoff to production and completion.
  • Develops processes to ensure all project/product details are communicated effectively
    and efficiently from estimator to engineering to production.
  • Manages resources such as the workload schedule of the Design Engineers and the
    programming schedule to ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Communicates with the management team any potential issues and delays so action
    can be taken to resolve problems as a team.
  • Prioritizes and assigns workloads based on customer schedules.
  • Allocates production paperwork to the appropriate Design Engineers (DE).
  • Trains employees in the programming and material ordering processes including Core
  • Coordinates any approved design changes to the entire Design Staff.
  • Monitors departmental workload by collecting and analyzing weekly hours and a
    Saturday schedule.
  • Coordinates Pre-Order meetings with CSR or the Sales staff.
  • Acts as the liaison with shop personnel on program and design issues.
  • Conducts final review and approval of all core drill plans.
  • Reviews and approves engineer drawings to the shop for quality control.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities of the Design Engineer Department in
    accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities
    include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing
    work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing
    complaints and resolving problems.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) or higher from a four-year college or university and/or a minimum of five (5) years related training in related industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience, including familiarity with scheduling resources based on production needs as well as the ability to coordinate with other departments both in office and production. 
  • Knowledge of Epicor, Inergy, AutoCAD, Inventor, Solid CIM, Microvellum ; Spreadsheet Software (Excel); Design Software; Word Processing Software (Word); Electronic Mail Software (Outlook); and Presentation software such as PowerPoint.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • The ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
