ROLE OVERVIEW : SAM's Software Engineer provides technical leadership, analysis, design, and programming support for the implementation and extension of Museum Internet / SAM Intranet web sites and web applications, as well as programmatic and logistical support of our Kirby CMS-based website.
FLSA STATUS : Exempt
REPORTS TO : Director of Technology
COMPENSATION : $100,000 - $110,000
WORKING SCHEDULE : This is a full-time position with a hybrid work schedule. This role requires three (3) days minimum in SAM’s downtown office and two (2) days that can be worked remotely. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 9 : 00am – 5 : 00pm PST.

SAM observes 12 holidays each year and offers FT Staff 1 paid floating holiday of their choice. FT Staff can opt into a 50% subsidized unlimited Orca card. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
Working with users and internal developers on various web development technologies, including Microsoft SharePoint based software solutions, Kirby CMS, REST-based APIs to develop custom software applications that interface with existing and new applications.
Provide training and support for users on how to leverage existing SharePoint technologies, maintenance and administration of the SharePoint farm, development of new and existing applications in SharePoint, and maintaining documentation of SharePoint-based solutions.
Maintain current and develop new systems and features for a Kirby CMS-based website.
Work with Education and Outreach teams on developing in-house interactive exhibits and experiences throughout the museum.
Write and maintain application documentation such as user guides, data definitions, and data maintenance standards.
Advise Systems Engineer and Help Desk in the assignment of access rights for new or updated applications.
Train, or arrange for training, users in the use of application computerized and manual procedures.
Advise Systems Engineer and Help Desk in developing backup and recovery plans for new or updated applications.
Work closely with other IT staff to ensure the integrity and security of application databases; work closely with other IT staff to test, commission, and install new or upgraded applications.
Perform other duties as assigned.
WE’RE LOOKING FOR :
Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred
Minimum 3 years’ of applicable experience
Excellent understanding of SharePoint architecture and features
Proficiency in developing and maintaining database-driven websites; eCommerce experience is preferable
Proficiency with current versions of Windows, Microsoft Office products, and programming systems including Visual Studio, SQL Server, Crystal Reports, and SQL Reporting Services
Proficiency with CSS, HTML, HTML 5, XML, XSL, JavaScript, jQuery, and PHP web development technologies and tools
Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language
Highly organized; able to work without a high degree of supervision
WORKING CONDITIONS :
Exposure : Work areas are inside, in a climate-controlled environment with light background noise.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES REQUIRED PERFORMING ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Sitting / Standing / Walking : Approximately 80% of time is spent working at a desk. Balance of time (approximately 20%) is spent moving around work areas.
Communication : Clear and effective verbal and written communication in English with trustees, the public, and co-workers is necessary.
Vision : Ability to effectively use a computer screen and interpret printed materials, memos and other appropriate paperwork.
Lifting / Carrying / Pushing / Pulling : Ability to transport files and office supplies.
Stooping / Kneeling : Ability to access files / stock supplies in low cabinets and shelves.
Reaching / Handling : Ability to input information into computer systems and retrieve and work with appropriate paperwork, equipment and supplies.
Office Work : Ability to effectively and regularly operate a computer, keyboard, telephone, and other office productivity machinery, such as copy machines and printers, and ability to inspect, prepare and use paperwork, files, equipment, and supplies is necessary.
