Summer Non-Clinical Internship - People Experience

Seattle Children's has multiple summer internship openings available in a variety of non-clinical departments across the organization. Internships will be offered in a hybrid work format and will occur over a period of up to 10 weeks, beginning in June and ending in August. Interns will work up to 40 hours per week.

This is an exciting opportunity for students to engage in an inclusive, hands-on learning environment, grow their skills, and gain exposure to a diverse range of career areas at Seattle Children's. As part of this experience, interns will learn to work collaboratively as part of a team, take on substantive projects under the guidance of experienced mentors, cultivate professional networks with peers and leaders, and participate in a range of career development activities. At the conclusion of the internship, all students will prepare a final project for presentation at a formal convening attended by Seattle Children's staff and leaders.

  • JOB SUMMARY*:

This position is temporary and/or intermittent in nature. Length of service is greater than 100 hours. This will be a hybrid experience in which part of the intern’s time will be spent onsite.

The People Experience intern is supported by the Resource Center and People Operations teams within People & Culture which provides centralized customer service support to all Seattle Children’s workforce members and leaders. The Resource Center Team is committed to creating a compassionate and equitable experience that supports employees so they may better serve our patients and families.

The intern will contribute to the People Operations Team by learning how to provide efficient and effective service to customers and stakeholders. They will support efforts to welcome new employees to our organization, assist in customer service using our Service Now portal, Workday and People & Culture CHILD pages, participate in interdepartmental project work, and collect and analyze data. They will gain a deep understanding of Seattle Children’s systems and processes and learn how to provide dynamic customer service support that aligns with our values of equity, compassion, integrity, and excellence.

An ideal candidate brings dedication, creativity, and curiosity to this work. Training will include an orientation to Seattle Children’s, overview of the Resource Center, and data collection and analysis. This role will provide meaningful exposure and skill development for those interested in exploring a potential career in customer service, organizational development, project management, operations and human resources administration.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Education and Experience*:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Recent college graduate or currently enrolled rising senior
  • In progress AA degree or B.A./B.S. in human resources management, business, or related field
  • Experience in tracking data & preparing reports using Word, Excel, and/or Access
  • Experience providing administrative support and/or customer service

*Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: *

  • Knowledge of scheduling programs including e-mail and voice mail
  • Able to effectively problem-solve and handle moderately to highly complex problems/issues in standard or emergent situations, and to be innovative and creative
  • Able to work with a diverse group of people in a fast-paced environment, often with frequent interruptions
  • Able to work independently and prioritize work from multiple sources; and effectively participate as a team member
  • Able to read and interpret documents such as certifications/licensures, safety rules, policies and procedures
  • Able to accurately perform average mathematical computations using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • Able to appropriately screen applications & resumes for minimum & preferred qualifications in accordance with applicable laws

Additional Job Responsibilities And Accountabilities

  • Assess customer needs, enter Service Now Tickets assign ticket and requests to appropriate Centers of Excellence (COE). Redirect customers to use Service Now, Resource Center email or phone line coach on how to use these channels with great customer service.
  • Answer phone calls meet customer needs in a way that minimizes unnecessary return calls, tickets and maximizes Resource Center productivity. Troubleshoot customer/workforce challenges and issues and escalate as needed. Answer multiple and/or designated telephone lines, take messages, route calls, and assist callers. Manage designated email inboxes and respond as appropriate. Respond to general employment inquiries via Service Now, email, and telephone.
  • Develop operational knowledge for the Resource Center - Support work design and workflow. Contribute to special projects and general practices that support HR operations and organizational goals, including tracking, documentation, and analysis of Resource Center data using Service Now and Workday.
  • Assist with support and production for a variety of PE’s offerings. Example: Day 1, Schedule meetings, assist with follow-on tasks with our Grow@SC assignments. Review/pass through the CONNECT toolkits, and leadership tool kits looking for improvement opportunities. Learn about what goes into maintaining a web presence. The same task may be applicable to the leadership toolkits.
  • With manager support, (1) develop internship learning goals and establish regular check-ins to discuss progress and identify learning opportunities and (2) prepare a final project for presentation at the end of the internship period.

$23.00 per hour

This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.
