Workforce Education Specialist in the Workforce Education Department.

The salary for this position is $58,632-$80,968/ Yearly (DOE).
Position Summary
The Workforce Education Specialist is an exempt position at North Seattle College (NSC) in the Opportunity Center for Employment and Education (OCE&E). This position performs a variety of duties to serve students that are eligible for the Workforce Education funding, specifically in the Worker Retraining student assistance program in the NSC Workforce Education Office. This position guides students through the process of becoming a student at the college, supports them throughout their educational journey, and processes and tracks financial assistance awards. The Workforce Education Specialist must stay informed of the current Worker Retraining and Workforce Education policy and best practices to ensure that both programmatic and student needs are met. The position collects, prepares and reports data as needed to maintain or enhance students eligibility for funding and ultimately authorized payment of awards. The Specialist works with campus and community partners including academic divisions, student services, WorkSource/ESD, and the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC).
Reporting Relationships
Reports to the Director of Workforce Education. This position does not supervise others.

What You Will Be Working On
- Represent the college and WFE at meetings and events as needed.
- Remain current with Worker Retraining funding regulations; advocate for funding programs by providing advice and perspective on the success, challenges and future of these programs to the SBCTC, DSHS, Employment Security, WIOA partners and others.
- Collect, prepare and report data necessary to maintain or enhance the college's opportunities to grow and expand Worker Retraining programs.
- Assist in compiling information for the annual Worker Retraining grant.
- Adhere to the approved Worker Retraining Financial Aid budget.
- Develop, refine and execute outreach strategies to attract and serve eligible students.
- Collaborate with WIOA and Employment Security to provide needed wraparound services for students.
- Guide students through the process of becoming eligible, applying for funding, submitting required documentation, and complying with guidelines through workshops and individual intakes.
- Advise students on the ways that Worker Retraining funding impacts career and academic options.
- Process student awards, track expenditures and reconcile funds monthly.
- Complete progress forms for students receiving unemployment.
- Review and sign CAT/TB and SEAP applications for students receiving unemployment.
- Collaborate with WFE staff to leverage funds, to transfer students to other available funding programs when necessary, and to provide other needed services.
- Actively participate in the Technical Advisory Committee meetings and other outreach events.
- Lead the Worker Retraining Financial Aid Advisory Committee including the development of the Student Policies and Procedures.
- Project budget needs to determine the amount for quarterly prorated student awards.
- Help students remain eligible for funding by reassessing their status on a quarterly basis and assisting with barrier removal throughout their time in the program.
- Provide excellent customer service to current and potential students, campus, OCE&E and community partners.
- Perform back-up duties for other funding programs as necessary.
- Work well with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, such as racial, ethnic, religious, gender and sexual orientation, socio-economic and diverse physical and learning abilities.
- Bachelor's degree in public administration, education, social work, human services or related field or at least 3 years of equivalent direct work experience.
- Experience working with federal and state grants.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and coordinate effective outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience managing budgets expenditures.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
