MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
The pharmacy technician is responsible for; the processing of prescriptions, adjudicating online insurance claims, assisting SIHB patients, and cashiering. Pharmacy technicians are expected to be knowledgeable of and follow laws and regulations pertinent to the practice of pharmacy.
DUTIES:
- Interprets and processes prescriptions in the pharmacy management system. Enters patients insurance and adjudicates online claims.
- Assists patients at pick up and drop off counters, requests a pharmacist for counseling on all new prescriptions and for patient questions as needed or required. Explains minimum fee and pharmacy pricing structure.
- Maintains a cash register, collects funds appropriately, performs end of day tasks.
- Answers phone calls from patient and clinic staff, refers to a pharmacist as appropriate.
- Maintains knowledge of and follows pertinent laws and regulations, requesting clarification from a pharmacist or the pharmacy director as needed.
- Follows work flow procedures and directions from pharmacy supervisor or the pharmacist on duty.
- Checks in orders, stock shelves, rotates product, and files invoices in a timely manner.
- Assists in Quality Assurance process by identifying errors, documenting errors, and complying with changes made in work flow during this process.
- Identifies, removes, and isolates outdated, unsalable, or recalled medications.
- Identifies, removes and returns prescriptions to stock at the designated time.
- Maintains a clean work space, assists in pharmacy housekeeping, and shreds patient information.
- Obtains and maintains competency in medication adherence packaging preparation.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Licensed by the Washington State Board of Pharmacy as a pharmacy technician.
- High school Diploma
- Ability to type and experience with pharmacy management systems and third party billing
- Familiarity with health and social issues facing American Indians/Alaska Natives and a desire to promote the delivery of appropriate health services to this population.
- Candidate must be able to pass a background check.
WORK ENVIORNMENT:
SIHB staff work four (4) ten (10) hour shifts per week with one Saturday per month. Standard hours are 7 am to 6 pm, 4 days a week, with occasional extra hours for events or to meet deadlines.
