Job Title : Analyst, Fan Behavior & Market Research

Department : Strategy & Analytics

Reports To : Sr. Director, Revenue Optimization

Status : Full-Time; Exempt

Primary Objective : This role will enhance the organization’s research capabilities, focusing on customer lifetime value (CLV) modeling analysis, fan feedback and sentiment, and in-depth analysis of fan experience / behavior. This individual will support strategic decision-making with data-driven insights into fan preferences, behaviors, and interactions, ultimately optimizing customer acquisition, engagement, and retention strategies.

Essential Functions :

Fan & Customer Insights

  • Lead the development and execution of fan research programs, including post-purchase, post-attendance, bespoke seasonal research, focus groups, and other customer feedback initiatives.
  • Analyze fan feedback to identify trends, preferences, sentiment and behaviors informing the development of CLV models maximizing lifetime engagement, and refining marketing, operational and revenue-driving tactics.
  • Collaborate with external and syndicated research vendors, as well as internal departments to fulfill research needs that support data-driven decision-making, and improved fan experience, engagement and retention.
  • Support and conduct post-homestand meetings to recap fan engagement, identify improvement areas, and highlight growth opportunities based on trends and insights.

Research & Data Analysis

  • Design and conduct research and validation projects that focus on understanding fan behavior and preferences across various touchpoints and channels.
  • Provide actionable insights based on data analysis, including the development and implementation of reporting frameworks for fan engagement, efficiency and retention metrics.
  • Continuously analyze fan data to inform strategies for improving fan acquisition, loyalty, and retention, leveraging segmentation and predictive modeling techniques.
  • Regularly report on the effectiveness of fan engagement efforts, offering recommendations for strategy adjustments based on research findings.
  • Strategic Planning & Insights Delivery

  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure alignment of fan insights with overall organizational strategy, particularly focusing on fan retention and revenue optimization efforts.
  • Deliver clear, timely, and informative research findings through reports, presentation, and data visualizations to stakeholders across the organization.
  • Lead initiatives aimed at integrating fan insights into business strategies and decision-making process.
  • Research Innovation

  • Keep abreast of industry trends and emerging methodologies in customer feedback, CLV modeling, and data analysis.
  • Develop new approaches for gathering and analyzing fan feedback, exploring innovative technologies and research techniques to validate current tactics and deepen our knowledgebase of fan behavior.
  • Team Participation

  • Drive individual contributions to fan insights and research efforts, fostering a collaborative and results-driven team culture.
  • Participate in team meetings, providing insights and suggestions for continuous improvement of research process and strategies.
  • Encourage a forward-thinking, data-driven mindset withing the team, supporting the development of cultural innovation.
  • Education and Experience :

  • Bachelor’s and / or master’s degrees in marketing research, business analytics, statistics, economics, consumer behavior or related field required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in research, analytics, or business intelligence, with a focus on customer or fan behavior analysis.
  • Experience working with external and syndicated research vendors is preferred.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, statistical tools, and research methodologies.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills for delivering insights to cross-functional teams.
  • Required :

    Required Technical Tools

  • Proficiency in SQL, with an understanding of stored procedures.
  • Experience with data processing languages, particularly R, is preferred.
  • Strong background in consumer behavior research methods, including survey design, methodology, and analysis tools.
  • Experience with Qualtrics is preferred.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Tableau or Microsoft Power BI to create clear, actionable insights.
  • Experience with CRM platforms (., Salesforce, HubSpot) to manage fan / customer data, segment audiences, and integrate insights into broader strategies.
  • Required Skills

  • Deep understanding of fan behavior analysis, with the ability to apply research methodologies and data analysis to inform fan engagement and retention strategies.
  • Strong ability to analyze complex data, extract actionable insights, and present findings through clear, concise reports and presentations.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable recommendations for diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong project management skills, with a keen attention to detail to ensure error-free, timely delivery of research insights.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint) for analysis, reporting, and presentation, with advanced skills in Excel for data manipulation and PowerPoint for visual storytelling.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal teams and external research vendors to meet organizational research needs and deliver high-quality, data-driven results.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of customer lifetime value (CLV) modeling and fan segmentation techniques.
  • Familiarity with trends in sports industry research and fan engagement practices.

  • The Mariners are committed to providing competitive pay, perks, and benefits packages for our valued Team Members.

    The anticipated starting pay for this role is between $80,000-$90,000. All perks are subject to eligibility requirements and availability and may be modified or amended from time to time.
