Seattle City Light, a department of the City of Seattle, is one of the nation’s largest municipally owned utilities in terms of the number of customers served. We are seeking a Cook to join the Hospitality team at the Skagit Hydroelectric Project, one of Washington State's most beautiful and scenic hydro generating facilities in Newhalem, Washington.
The Cook supports meal preparation and service support to personnel at the Skagit Hydroelectric Project and seasonal tours. This position supports a variety of projects and participates in supporting the operation and maintenance activities that strengthen, beautify, and improve the maintenance and reliability of hydroelectric plants. This position reports to the Generation Supervisor - Skagit Maintenance.
Job Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a minimum of two years of commercial cooking experience preparing a variety of food in large quantities (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).
Work Environment/Physical Demands
State of Washington Food and Beverage Worker's Permit.

Job Responsibilities
- Cook meat, sauces, eggs and vegetables
- Bake breads, rolls and pastries
- Prepare salads, salad dressings, fruits and beverages
- Prepare a standard menu for groups of 25-100 persons
- Ensure a set serving schedule is met and portions food for family-style serving
- Clean and maintain kitchen utensils, equipment and area
- Inspect work area and maintain safety and sanitation standards
- Operate commercial kitchen equipment including food grinder, slicer, cuber, mixer and deep fry cooker
- Lead culinary interns
- Good oral communication, problem solving and conflict management skills
- Exemplary customer service skills
Minimum Qualifications

Work Environment/Physical Demands
- Required to work nights, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
- Required to work varying hours.
- Required to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time.
- Frequently required to lift objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds.
State of Washington Food and Beverage Worker's Permit.
Desired Qualifications - You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:
- Interest in working in a remote small-town setting
- Good customer service skills
- The successful candidate will be able to develop relationships with local agencies and other Divisions within the utility to coordinate events and tours
- Ability to place food orders and coordinate staff schedules
- Experience hiring and training seasonal temporary help
- Works well independently and in a team setting
- Coordination of large events and catering
- Experience preparing reports from a POS system
- Ability to multi-task
