Overview of Position
Under general direction of the Assistant Manager of Safety and Security, provide supervision, direction, and inspection of safety and security staff to ensure department policies are being followed. They coordinate and assign work to division leads and security specialists assigned in their perspective areas. This position responds to incidents where a supervisor is needed to handle certain issues.
Essential Functions

Provides administrative leadership in the Safety and Security Department, within Division and assigned schools; develops and recommends departmental operation goals and objectives that are consistent with District Strategic Plan, District Policies, State and Federal laws; works collaboratively with Safety and Security Management and other staff.

Supervises and coordinates security staff assigned at schools and responding to school incidents; assigns and reviews work; evaluates performances; provides recommendations regarding hiring; promotions, performance improvement plans and terminations; develops and provides staff training; researches best practice and develops Safety and Security Operation Manual procedures and protocols.

Collaborates with Seattle Police Department, City Crime Councils; provides technical assistance to schools, and security staff to prevent, prepare, respond and recover from incidents of youth and gang violence.

Responds to critical incidents district-wide; develops operation orders; intervenes and eases conflict among individuals and/or groups; drives to different sites within the district; responds to incidents on off-shift hours as required.

Conducts and coordinates investigations regarding criminal, civil or administrative matters; maintains a high level of confidentiality for both on-going and closed investigations; may use video surveillance equipment; monitors incident reports to determine patterns; analyzes incident reports for patterns and to maintain statistical information; provides reports to the Safety & Security Management Team.

Transports illegal drugs and weapons to the evidence safe, maintains chain of evidence including investigation reports and records of all materials placed in the evidence safe in compliance with applicable regulations

Attends a variety of meetings, conferences and seminars to maintain current knowledge of assigned area; monitors current research, trends, issues and practices, communicates findings as appropriate.

Typical Qualifications
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Three years’ experience in Safety program management, crisis intervention, safety management or applicable fields; bachelor’s degree in Juvenile Justice or Emergency Management; Associate Degree plus four additional years of qualifying work; or experience may substitute for Bachelor’s Degree requirement or High School degree plus ten additional years of qualifying work; or an equivalent of education and experience.
Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the relevant knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the work will be considered.
Desired Certification & Licenses
FEMA Course Certificates: National Incident Management (IS-700) certificate, ICS (IS-100, ICS-300, and ICS-400) certificate, School Emergency Management (IS-362); Leadership and Influence (IS-240); valid Washington State driver’s license or evidence of equivalent mobility, current first aid and CPR certificates.
