What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Physical Therapist - 1.0FTE position at Seattle Public Schools?
There are multiple positions available.
Physical therapists evaluate, prescribe, and implement therapeutic activities to help students who have conditions that are physically, mentally or developmentally disabling. Physical therapy interventions focus on restoring impaired fine and/or gross motor function, sensory processing ability, and perceptual motor skills needed for successful participation in the school environment. Specific physical therapy services include but are not limited to: working directly with students in carrying out rehabilitation procedures, such as neurodevelopment treatment, sensory integrative therapy, developmental training, therapeutic exercises, gait training, and other physical procedures; instruct students, parents, and staff in the care and use of prescribed corrective appliances; provide ongoing evaluation and planning for treatment of students' physical and mental, disabilities; prepare and direct therapeutic programs which can be carried out by parents, school staff, and students. PT services are federally mandated through IDEA, governed by licensure laws, WACS-Washington Administrative Codes (state of Washington) and IDEA.

Plans and implements treatment based upon evaluations and reevaluations of eligible students. (60% of the time)
2. Evaluates-assess-observes and writes reports about findings for students as part of the MDT evaluation for eligibility or for additional evaluation requests. (7% of the time)
3. Evaluates-assess-observes and write reports for students as part of the MDT reevaluation process. (10% of the time)
4. Writes treatment plans-IEPs-Progress notes. (10% of the time)
5. Consults with teachers, parents,other staff members,and private based medical professionals. (3% of the time)
6. Communicates via e-mail or by phone with parents and private based medical professionals. (2% of the time)
7. Manages, operates, and makes minor repairs and adjustments to various equipment and supplies. (2% of the time)
8. Attends IEP-evaluation-staff- and other related meetings. (2%)
9. Participates in education for students and provides program improvement recommendations. (2%)
10. Performs related duties as appropriate to the assignment. (2%)
Other Functions:
Supervises Physical Therapy Assistants, Physical Therapy students and volunteers.
Any other related duties as appropriate to the assignment.Education:
B.S., M.S., or D.P.T. degree in Physical Therapy
Years of Experience:
Will take new graduates.
Preferred Experience:
Previous training and experience in Pediatrics or School District is desirable.
Certifications & Licenses:
Preferred Continuing Education/Training:
Training, etc. in school-based therapy or Pediatric therapy methodology
Clearances:
Criminal justice fingerprint and background check.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge:
Prefer someone familiar with writing reports and IEPs - but not necessary.
Skills:
Prefer someone familiar with using a computer.
