Position Description
Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is recruiting for a Senior Accountant in the General Ledger and Project Cost Accounting (GLPC) group. This Senior Accountant position is the technical expert who understands the complex functions with the City’s financial system, PeopleSoft. Responsibilities include performing complex data analysis, developing queries, reconciling large volumes of data, recommending process improvement, and assist in preparing SPU’s three audited financial statements. This position also works closely with four principal accountants, Budget and Rates staff, and assists accountants with reconciliations and complex journals. This position reports to the Accounting Manager.

Qualifications
Experience: Three (3) years of professional experience in general or governmental accounting (or equivalent education/training/experience)
Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field with at least 24 semester hours or 36 quarter credit units in accounting (no substitutions)

Qualifications

- Ability to exercise professional judgment in decision-making and recommendations.
- Demonstrated ability to take on challenges and work to solve them.
- Experienced working with PeopleSoft or other large ERP accounting systems.
- Proficient with advanced Excel functions (pivot tables, Vlookup, etc).
- Solid understanding of accounting for an enterprise fund.
- Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Ability to clearly communicate accounting information in non-technical terms.
- Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to work with a diverse workforce and to be a team player.
