Chief Financial Officer          


Salary: $159,000 – $224,000 Annual Salary. The salary scale for this position is between steps 0 and 19, depending on experience. This is an exempt salary position, 40 hours a week. Applicants must pass an extensive background check.

Seattle Roots Community Health is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing comprehensive, culturally responsive healthcare services to underserved communities in Seattle. With a rich history dating back to the 1970s, when our Carolyn Downs Family Medical Center and Country Doctor Community Clinic were founded by local activists, we have been committed to advancing health equity and social justice. Today, we operate a network of healthcare facilities, including primary care clinics, an After-Hours Clinic, School-Based Health Centers, a low-barrier Medication-Assisted Treatment clinic, and a Dental Clinic, all designed to provide high-quality care regardless of a patient's ability to pay.

 

Position Overview:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for the accounting and finance activities of Seattle Roots Community Health (Seattle Roots), financial and cost reporting and analysis, asset and inventory control, audits and other financial functions as delegated by the Chief Executive Officer.

Ability to Relocate to: Seattle, WA (Relocation is required prior to start date.)


Work Location: 500 19TH AVE E, Seattle, WA, 98112-4007, United States

  • In-person attendance required with a hybrid option (1 day from home, 4 days in the office)

Responsibilities

  • Ensure Financial Readiness: Prepare Seattle Roots for upcoming changes in healthcare-related financial activities to ensure financial readiness.
  • Treasury Management: Provide cash management and oversight and maintain banking relationships.
  • Produce Timely Reports: Oversee the accurate and timely preparation of statistical and financial reports for management, Board use, and grant compliance.
  • Update Financial Systems: Continuously update and enhance financial management systems to meet current healthcare and funding requirements.
  • Coordinate Regulatory Audits: Ensure timely audits of all financial systems to meet regulatory standards.
  • Manage Contracts and Billing: Oversee billing processes for contracts, including the establishment and negotiation of rates at initiation and renewal.
  • Oversee Revenue Cycle Operations: Manage all aspects of the revenue cycle to maximize financial performance.
  • Submit Required Reports: Ensure timely preparation and submission of required reports, including Medicare and Medicaid Cost Reports, UDS, FFR, and other compliance-related documentation.
  • Grant Compliance: Oversee all financial requirements for active grants to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain Asset Records: Manage the fixed asset log and ensure the depreciation schedule is up to date.
  • Maintain Accounting Documentation: Prepare and regularly update the organization’s accounting manual.
  • Lead Budgeting Efforts: Provide strategic guidance and oversee the preparation of annual budgets and any necessary budget revisions.
  • Executive Leadership Team Member: Serve as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, contributing to organizational strategy and decision-making.
  • Ensure Policy Compliance: Adhere to and uphold all of the Health Center’s written standards, including its Standards of Conduct, operational policies, and procedures. Report any suspected noncompliance.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Actively participate as a contributing member of the emergency preparedness team under the Incident Command System.
  • Uphold Confidentiality: Maintain the highest level of confidentiality in all financial and organizational matters.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or equivalent experience preferred.  
  • Experience in health center finance, ideally within a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC)
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience or in a senior leadership role.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong communication, both written and oral
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
  • Proficiency in financial management software
  • Experience with MIP preferred
  • Advanced skills in financial modeling, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Ability to analyze complex financial data and align financial strategy with organizational goals
