Location: After Hours Clinic (AHC), Onsite

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Wage Scale: 2024/ Step 1: $24.00 - Step 19: $35.84

Reports to: Medical Assistant Manager and Clinic Manager

FTE/Hours Per week: 0.5 FTE/ 20 hours per week. 

 

 

Salary: $24.00– 35.84 per hour, payable bi-weekly. The salary scale for this position is between steps 0 and 19, depending on experience.We use the resume submitted on your application to determine your hourly wage, so please ensure that all relevant work experience is listed in your resume. Applicants must pass an extensive background check.

 

Schedule: Depends on candidate availability, but must be available for 20 hours a week during AHC operating hours which is Monday - Friday from 5:30 pm - 10:00 pm and Saturday and Sundays 10:30 - 5:30. 

 

 

About Us
Seattle Roots Community Health is a not-for-profit organization that operates two primary care clinics, an After-Hours Clinic, two School-Based Health Centers, a low barrier Medication-assisted treatment clinic, and a Dental Clinic. Our Carolyn Downs Family Medical Center was founded in 1970 by the Seattle Black Panther Party in Seattle’s Central District. Our Country Doctor Community Clinic was established in 1971 by residents of the Capital Hill neighborhood in conjunction with the Seattle Liberation Front. The primary goal of each clinic was to provide low-barrier, high-quality healthcare services and promote social justice.

Job Summary

Our medical clinics, an important part of our mission is to be sure that our patients have a caring, friendly provider experience, whether their visit is in-office or virtual.  As a Medical Assistant, your stellar interpersonal and organizational skills will be key to achieving this experience.  You’ll be an integral coordinator for the provider, monitoring the patient flow for medical appointments and ensuring exam rooms and instruments are disinfected and ready to go.  You’ll engage with patients to obtain their vital signs and present complaints, and document those in medical records.  Adult and pediatric patients will count on you to expertly administer injections and direct them on ordered follow-up procedures.  Patients and providers alike will appreciate your knack for keeping things running smoothly in our fast-paced clinics.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care and Customer Service

  • Deliver exceptional customer service aligned with the organization’s mission and values.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Accurately obtain and document patient vital signs and notify appropriate personnel of any abnormalities.
  • Elicit and document patients' chief complaints and update medical records.

 

Appointment Coordination and Flow

  • Proactively review clinic schedules and obtain necessary information, such as outside medical records and imaging reports.
  • Monitor patient flow for in-person and telehealth appointments to maintain efficiency.

 

Procedures and Support

  • Perform ordered procedures, including EKG, Spirometry, Nebulizer Treatment, Audiometry, Tympanometry, Ear Lavage, NST, Rapid HIV Testing, and visual acuity exams.
  • Administer vaccines and injections to adult and pediatric patients.
  • Support providers and nursing staff with patient-related tasks, including diagnostic studies and clinical exams.

 

Teamwork and Training

  • Assist newly hired staff during onboarding and training periods by providing guidance and shadowing opportunities.
  • Collaborate with managers and supervisors to coordinate training schedules.

 

Clinic Operations and Maintenance

  • Ensure exam rooms are clean, disinfected, and stocked with appropriate medical supplies.
  • Assist with sterilization of instruments and adhere to clinic guidelines.
  • Participate in clinic opening, closing, and break coverage at all clinic locations (Country Doctor, Carolyn Downs, and After Hours Clinic).

 

Administrative Tasks

  • Complete assigned tasks, including managing in-basket messages, refill requests, and external facility communications.
  • Assist with referrals and internal/external coordination for patient care.

 

Community Engagement and Organizational Involvement

  • Participate in daily huddles, staff meetings, evaluation processes, and quality improvement activities.
  • Represent the organization at endorsed events such as health fairs.

 

Flexibility and Growth

  • Cross-train in interdepartmental roles (e.g., Lab, Referral Coordination, Medical Records, Call Center, and Reception).
  • Cover other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support clinic operations.

 

Essential Functions

  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, fine finger movement, and use of a keyboard and telephone while viewing a computer monitor.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, twisting, pushing/pulling, and lifting (up to 50 pounds).
  • Adequate hearing, vision, and manual dexterity to operate patient care equipment (e.g., syringes, EKG machines, and scales).
  • Regular and reliable attendance to ensure smooth clinic operations and patient care.

 

Qualifications

Education & Training

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Completion of a certified Medical Assistant training program.
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (required).

 

Licensure & Certification

  • Current Medical Assistant Certification through the Washington State Department of Health OR current Medical Assistant – Registered credential with another organization through Washington State Department of Health AND experience as a Medical Assistant – Registered in a primary care setting (required)
  • Active CPR certification (required).

 

Experience & Skills

  • Experience with EPIC EMR (preferred but not required).
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred but not required).

  • Perform clinical and non-clinical duties with proper training, maintaining or improving performance as necessary.

  • Maintain professional attire, grooming, and demeanor at all times.
  • Stay organized and coordinate multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Learn and utilize the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system effectively.
  • Adapt to a flexible schedule to meet clinic needs with advanced notice.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google products, and working with PCs.

 

Supervision: This position is supervised by the MA Manager
