- This is a hybrid position, with in office and remote days.
Salary Range :
The full salary range for this role is between $115,000 and $155,000, with $125,000 as the midpoint. To ensure equity with our internal staff, external hires can expect to join the organization between the minimum and midpoint of this range depending on experience and qualification.

Position Overview :
Reporting to the CFO, the Controller is responsible for :
Directing the daily accounting functions for three legal entities : Seattle Symphony, Seattle Symphony Foundation (SSF) and Benaroya Hall Music Center (BHMC);Generating accurate and timely financial reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles;Supervising the activity of the accounting department including oversight of all accounting, accounts payable, payroll, and revenue reporting functions;Performing a variety of complex accounting duties requiring initiative and independent judgment; andMaintaining internal controls and developing new procedures as appropriate to improve accounting operations.Essential Job Functions :
Plan the activities of the accounting department & proactively supervise & mentor four accounting staff membersProvide support to the CFO by assisting with projects, presentations and custom financial analysis reportsSupport board committees and make presentations at board meetings as requiredCoordinate inter-entity and inter-departmental accounting transactions & procedures.Properly apply nonprofit revenue recognition policies, ensuring that restricted funds are properly categorized and utilizedResponsible for monthly and year-end financial reports for the three separate entities, including variance analysis, monthly projections & annual consolidated reportsMonitor internal control functions, implement new controls as necessary, and document procedures and update manual regularlyWork in coordination with the Accounting Manager in annual budgeting processMaintain a calendar of due dates for financial reports, taxes, licenses, pension reports & other regulatory requirements & ensure all deadlines are metCoordinate external reporting including industry associations, tax returns, and grant reportsManage annual financial audit preparation & daily interface with audit staff during field workManage pension audit, 403B audit and 990, 990-T preparationPrepare annual insurance renewalReview and approval of monthly journal entries, biweekly payroll, and weekly A / P check run.Communicate effectively with staff throughout the organization. Promote a positive, supportive and customer oriented environmentRequirements
Qualifications :
BA in Accounting or Business; CPA required . Public accounting experience is a significant plus.Minimum 10 years' experience in accounting with progressive responsibilities and significant supervisory experienceExperience in non-profit, multi-fund accounting or consolidated entities' processes a plusAdvanced proficiency using Excel and working knowledge of other MS Office products (Word, Outlook and PowerPoint) required. Experience with accounting & financial reporting software, Abila / Sage MIP Fund Accounting Software or similar preferredAbility to work independently and with accuracy in a high volume, fast paced environmentWilling to work additional hours and some weekends, particularly during annual auditWorking knowledge of GAAP accounting, with non-profit experience strongly preferredExcellent team-building skills and ability to work collaboratively with all levels of the organizationStrong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, board, or other outside partnersPhysical Requirements :
