2ND SHIFT TOOL MAKER
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Possesses detailed knowledge of all tool room machines. Performs complete machine setups.
- Works closely with other tool makers in an effort to learn the methods and technical aspects of tool making for heading and threading operations.
- Performs tool inspection and layout to ensure tools meet specifications.
- Accurately reads blueprints.
- Accurately utilizes micrometers, calipers and tool room support gauging and equipment.
- Manufactures tools and fixtures for other manufacturing departments as required.
- Manufactures parts for machine repair as required.
- Performs preventive maintenance on tool room equipment.
- Maintains machine tools and equipment in a safe operating condition and is always mindful of potential safety hazards.
- Procures parts, equipment and services from venders and processes necessary paperwork for purchasing of components.
- Maintains work area and machines in a clean and orderly fashion
- Disposes of waste material in and around work area.
- Follows all general safety rules, procedures and regulations.
- Assists engineering with new job development.
- Assists engineering with bill of material updates.
- Works with Tool Room Attendant to utilize obsolete tooling for present jobs through reworking internally or externally.
- Assists operators with tooling problems and works with Tool Room Attendant and engineering to resolve.
- Works with engineering on continuous improvement projects.
- Assists Tool Room Attendant in distribution of tools to proper areas.
- Reworks and builds new dies.
WORK EXPERIENCE & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Advanced math skills including trigonometry and geometry.
- Minimum three years of tool and die experience or technical training.
- Ability to move freely around the plant.
- Lifting and transferring of a variety of materials weighing up to forty pounds.
