What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager, Merchandise position at SeaWorld Orlando?
What you get to do:
- Support Orlando park's merchandise master planning strategies and implementation.
- Work directly with the Director of Merchandise to ensure strategies align with the Park and Corporate growth strategies.
- Ensure team members are selected, placed, developed and motivated to carry out departmental objectives ensuring merchandising strategies are in place.
- Complete all scheduling and placement of assigned team members.
- Implement department revenue accountability and programs to exceed budget targets.
- Provide direction to achieve the highest quality levels for all revenue operations, to include guest service, photo/vending/service presentation and appearance, day-to-day operations of all revenue centers; maintenance; cleanliness; safety and security.
- Ensure inventory levels for areas of responsibility are met by restocking, ordering, min/max adjustments made, and out of stock reporting to inventory manager.
- Ensure compliance of all policies and procedures relative to operation, ensuring applicability and accuracy. Engage with peers and others in effort to advance all department and organizational objectives broadly.
- Deliver revenue and EBITDA growth.
- Carry out responsibilities in accordance with SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment policy and applicable laws, including audit and annual inventory completion.
- Support departmental communication plans and ensure that direct reports are informed and engaged in departmental goals.
- Achieve Merchandising team member satisfaction targets as measured by annual survey.
- Utilize systems including MMS, Retail Ideas, Parkware and other software programs to make metric-based decisions.
- Ensure team is familiar with key analytics and utilizes them for planning decisions.
- Develop new metrics as business needs warrant.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What it takes to succeed:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Minimum of 3 years experience leading teams within a theme park, hospitality or retail environment with demonstrated success.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have experience in managing vendor relationships and negotiations.
- Innovative and entrepreneurial with retail operations, logistics, prioritization and organization skills.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task in an environment with many high-stakes competing priorities and solve problems pro-actively.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, develop and work in a team environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to interface and effectively present to all levels in the organization
- Working knowledge of Point of Sale/Inventory Systems, Power Point, Excel, Word and Retail Systems.
- Must be available to work varying shifts/hours based on business need, to include opening, mid-, and closing shifts; nights, weekends, and holidays
- Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions and temperature extremes
What else is important:
- Must be able to lift, push, pull and/or carry up to 50 lbs.
- Bachelor's degree strongly preferred.
- Technical understanding of photography equipment and systems preferred.
- Understanding of utilized systems such as: Microsoft office, Kronos, Scheduler, Parkware and Retail Management System preferred
- 5 years experience leading teams within a theme park, hospitality or retail environment with demonstrated success preferred.
- Position engages in extensive walking and standing throughout entire work shift and climb/ascend heights
- Perform the following physical activities: kneeling, squatting, bend floor-to waist/waist-to-overhead, reach overhead, simple grasp and fine hand manipulation tasks (use of tools/keyboard/writing)
- Must be able to work indoors and outdoors, in varying weather, to include extreme heat. Position may be exposed to fumes, dust, odors, and cold/heat temperature extremes
- Perform cleaning duties, including use of cleaning chemicals
- Available to work varied schedule, including weekends and holidays.
