As Supervisor, Zoological, you’ll:
- Be responsible for operation of animal area in absence of Curator.
- Be responsible for proper staffing of animal areas through effective scheduling.
- Be proficient in application of behavioral modification techniques used at SeaWorld. This includes, but is not limited to, the skill set to develop and implement new behavior, training of naïve animals, training behavior to completion, proactively maintaining conditioned behavior, and the ability to form relationships with all of the animals in assigned area.
- Establish and maintain a positive atmosphere which ensures the highest level of ambassador performance and guest service while enforcing and complying with safety procedures and guidelines.
- Consistently practice safe work habits including, but not limited to the use of personal protective equipment, lifting and reporting of unsafe situations.
- Encourage and demonstrate confidentiality and professional communication internally and with all departments that interact with the Zoological department
- Hire, supervise, train, and coach ambassadors while ensuring proper training and development in accordance with SEA guidelines.
- Assist in the evaluation of departmental employees including annual performance evaluations and development plans.
- Provide excellent service to guests and ambassadors
- Maintain open and continuous lines of communication with Zoological leaders.
- Encourage and demonstrate confidentiality and professional communication internally and with all departments.
- Responsibly manage company assets and be responsible in spending for supplies and equipment to achieve financial goals.
- Assist with future exhibit designs and enhancements.
- Assist with animal acquisition and disposition.
- Assist department with other duties as assigned.
What it takes to succeed:
- Be 18 years old
- Minimum of six (6) years in a professionally related Zoological field and/or have a minimum of two (2) years as a Senior I within SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment.
- Be able to pass swim test.
- Have a minimum of six months park experience with no significant performance deficiencies within the six month period.
- Be SCUBA certified.
- Be able to push, pull, and lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Have a working knowledge of the English language with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer skills to include knowledge of Microsoft Office application and basic math skills.
- Have strong presentation and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrate initiative, organizational and interpersonal skills. Professional and outgoing presence required.
- Ability to manage professional relationships with internal and external guests.
- Be able to work independently and have flexibility to work successfully in a team environment.
- Be able to stand, walk, and work for prolonged periods of time in extreme weather conditions.
- Be willing to work a flexible schedule to include weekdays, weekends, evenings, holidays and overnights.
- Be willing to comply with and ensure ambassadors comply with all SEA grooming guidelines and employment standards.
- Be able to successfully complete all legal, company and department training requirements to include but not limited to passing required tests and certifications within established timelines.
