Position Overview
We are seeking a Legal Assistant, with a background in creditors’ rights and bankruptcy, collections, corporate transactions, litigation, and/or real estate law, who is highly organized and detail oriented.
Requirements
- Prior experience as a legal assistant/secretary.
- Interested candidates must reply with a resume AND salary requirements. Responses without salary requirements will not be considered.
- Full-time position with hours from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, including an unpaid hour for lunch. Overtime may be required based on workload and deadlines.
- Primarily supports attorneys in creditors’ rights (bankruptcy and collections), real estate law, and litigation matters, with potential assignments across other practice areas.
- Administrative Support:
- Run conflict checks and open new client matters.
- Manage attorneys’ schedules, appointments, and travel arrangements.
- Handle incoming calls, correspondence, and email communications.
- Process expense reports and assist with billing.
- Proofread and edit documents as requested.
- Document Preparation and Management:
- Prepare first drafts, edit, redline, and format legal and non-legal documents, including pleadings, agreements, and correspondence.
- File pleadings in state and federal courts. Experience in electronic filing is required.
- Organize and manage both electronic and physical documents and filing systems for easy retrieval and compliance.
- Communication and Coordination:
- Act as a liaison between attorneys, clients, and external parties.
- Ensure timely distribution of legal documents and correspondence.
- Possess excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills.
- Handle confidential information with discretion to maintain attorney-client privilege.
- Interact professionally and courteously with clients and professionals from other firms/businesses.
- Possess excellent proofreading skills (spelling, grammar, and punctuation).
- Exhibit strong attention to detail and high level of organization.
- Possess knowledge of legal terminology and practice area processes.
- Provide general office support (filing, faxing, copying, and scanning).
- Understand and manage competing deadlines among team members.
- Maintain a positive, can-do attitude to perform successfully in a fast-paced environment.
- Have proficiency in Microsoft 365 office products and ability to learn firm technology.
- Be willing to work occasional overtime.
- Able to lift at least 10 lbs. and sit for extended periods.
