JOB DESCRIPTION.
Second Baptist School (SBS) is currently seeking a MIDDLE SCHOOL HEAD FOOTBALL COACH for the 2025-2026 school year.
- Position Title : Middle School Head Football Coach
- This position reports to the Varsity Head Football Coach and operates under the direction of both the Middle School Athletic Director and the Director of Athletics.
- This position is a seasonal, stipend-based role.
For qualified candidates, there may be potential for this role to be combined with an open full-time position within the school.
The goal of the Department of Athletics at Second Baptist School is to provide an environment of competition, cooperation and teamwork for our students that glorifies God and provides valuable life lessons. Winning the contest is important to any competitor, but the lessons learned in the heat of competition are the most important attributes to be gained from the contest.
JOB SUMMARY.
A Second Baptist School coach is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing an athletic program that encourages students to develop their athletic potential while prioritizing Christ-centered character development. This role oversees the 7th and 8th grade football teams by focusing on teaching the fundamentals of the game, fostering a Christ-centered environment, and striving for success on and off the field.
CANDIDATE SUMMARY.

Hold a bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution.Have prior experience in coaching and / or significant playing experience.Possess the ability to mentor student athletes in their Christian faith, athletic skills and life skills.Be adept at engaging with student athletes and families.Understand and embrace Christian education.Have a biblical worldview on athletics and competition.Be able to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.Be personable, energetic and approachable.Report to work on a regular and punctual basis.Be committed to professional growth.Demonstrate excellent communication skills.Be willing to collaborate with colleagues.Be proficient in technology.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES.
Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to the following :
Work with the varsity head coach to develop a high-functioning middle school program that aligns with the mission of SBS to impact the lives of young men.Prepare and organize practices utilizing a staff of 6-10 assistant coaches.Work with the varsity head coach and the athletic department to ensure that all operations, requirements, logistics, and responsibilities are fulfilled for the successful completion of the season.This includes a robust communication plan for both teams that helps parents understand the mission, vision, and logistics of middle school football.
Be able to organize and supervise the middle school football program.Have successful coaching and / or playing experience.Be able to maintain a positive environment and expect high standards of conduct among athletes.Make recommendations for program changes.Respond appropriately to concerns and questions.Ensure the middle school game day experience is executed with excellence.Work with the varsity head coach and the athletic department to develop strategies for increasing participation in middle school football.Execute creative ways to celebrate success and build culture.Build relationships with other middle school football coaches and programs around the city, including HJPC, SBC and UIL schools, and SBMSA and other community football organizations.Obtain, if requested, the following certifications (paid for by SBS) :First AidNFHS Coaching PrinciplesNFHS Sport-Specific Coaching Certification (if applicable)Texas Commercial Driver's LicensePerform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.Teacher certification and / or prior knowledge of Second Baptist Church and School are considered a plus.
