What are the responsibilities and job description for the Residential Specialist position at Second Chance Dayton Group Home?
General Responsibilities:
The person in this position is responsible for the day-to-day supervision, safety, care, treatment, and rights of the youth in the program.
12-Hour Shifts: (1st, 7AM-7PM; 2nd, 7PM-7AM)
8-Hour Shifts Available for Part-Time
Specific Responsibilities
- Ensures that the facility operates according to local, state, and federal regulations.
- Communicates professionally with residents, probation and parole officers, case workers, families, schools, employers etc.
- Cook and/or supervise residents with cooking meals daily.
- Documents and records all complaints.
- Complies with all safety and health standards to assure that all Residents at Second Chance Dayton are in good hands.
- Ensures that all medication and chemicals are at all times kept locked until given, or used as needed, and signed off by Staff.
- Participates in monthly mandatory meetings.
- Completes random house checks
- Reports any suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation to the Department of Children Services.
- Develops and processes a daily and incident reports.
- Gives daily reports to on-coming staff.
- Reports all repairs and required maintenance of the home, checks to be sure completed as requested; reports if additional repairs/maintenance are still needed.
- Develop relationships with clients who have emotional and behavioral disorders
- Meet needs of the residents.
- Facilitates leadership skills and self-respect at all times.
- Plan and lead group and individual activities aimed at helping clients achieve skills, creating opportunities for clients to succeed.
- Understanding and following emergency procedures, including fire procedures.
- Conducting room checks as needed.
- Check Daily Chores.
- Take inventory of clothing, shoes, and other supplies.
- Observes and documents the behavior, development and needs of youth.
- Performs light housekeeping duties such as assisting in making beds and doing laundry to ensure the youth's residential setting is neat, clean, and orderly
- Gives verbal and physical reassurance and provides guidance to youth in distress.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
Qualifications
- A High School Diploma - GED
Or at least one year of full-time experience in direct provision of care to children.
- CPR and First Aid
- Valid Ohio Driver's License and auto insurance
- Must be able to pass criminal background check
- Must complete training as required
