What are the responsibilities and job description for the Outpatient Substance Abuse Counselor position at Second Chance Inc?
Position Overview: The Second Chance Community Recovery Worker I (Full-Time) reports directly to the Program Coordinator and is responsible for serving as an entry-level Substance Use Disorder Counselor, providing face-to-face and/or telehealth individual and group counseling, case management, referrals, crisis intervention, psychoeducation, assessment, and treatment planning to individuals and groups. The Community Recovery Worker I works in collaboration with the program staff and under the guidance of Program Specialist, Program Manager, and Executive Director to support participants to complete client-based outpatient and intensive outpatient treatment services using evidence-based practices.
Job Functions:
· Provide group counseling as assigned.
· Complete New Client Orientations and Biopsychosocial/spiritual Assessments as assigned.
· Conduct monthly or as-needed individual counseling sessions with assigned client caseload.
· Manage a client caseload efficiently and in accordance with Alameda County and Medi-Cal standards.
· Provide relapse prevention services as assigned, including drug screening and harm reduction coaching.
· Attend Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services and/or Second Chance Inc. staff trainings.
· Carry out all Second Chance Inc. operations in accordance with its Mission and in collaboration with program staff.
· Participate in all required weekly staff meetings and monthly case consultations.
· Develop competency in and carry out the 12 Core Functions of SUD Counseling.
· Develop knowledge of Alameda County Behavioral Health’s EHR and billing systems.
· Take appropriate precautions to guard against inappropriate sharing of Protected Health Information (PHI) pursuant to HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and California Welfare and Institutions Code Section 5328 regarding “Confidential Patient Information.”
· Renew own registration from an accredited institution, including completing the minimum 45 Continuing Education Units and ethics course each year.
· Performs other duties as assigned by the Program Specialist, Program Coordinator, Program Manager, or Executive Director.
Qualifications:
· Registered SUD Counselor with an accredited institution.
· High School Diploma or GED.
· Proof of enrollment and/or work towards fulfillment of the minimum 315 hours of education required to become a Certified SUD Counselor.
· Ability to work independently using sound judgment and critical thinking skills.
· Ability to communicate effectively using trauma-informed care practices and high levels of professionalism.
· Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and Zoom Inc web-based services.
· Knowledge of Substance Use Disorders and implementation of evidence-based treatments and harm reduction principles within the specified scope of practice.
· Ability to complete assigned tasks and meet deadlines in accordance with agency and county policies and standards.
