What are the responsibilities and job description for the Attendance and Orientation Coordinator position at Second Mile Education?
Attendance and Orientation Coordinator responsible for facilitating the Company’s defined orientation curriculum with all new students and parents and ensuring a successful transition for all students resulting in early performance improvement and retention. They are also responsible for overseeing and enforcing attendance policy, monitoring school wide attendance data, and working with individual students and their families regarding attendance issues.

- Effectively facilitates a classroom environment that encourages a positive, orderly and purposeful student learning atmosphere.
- Provide a learning environment of high student accountability that is student-centered and aligned with the school’s academic goals and specified objectives.
- Organizes and directs the new student orientation process with parents and students which includes acclimating students and parents to school policies, procedures, and expectations, along with assisting students with their understanding of the Student Code of Conduct and the schools policies and procedures.
- Coordinates the planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of school attendance and truancy plans.
- Tracks attendance of all orientation cohorts for the first 10 weeks of each student’s enrollment and intervenes to assist and support student engagement in school.
- Communicates with parents, and assist them in ensuring that their child is attending school regularly and increase parent/guardian awareness of attendance laws and the consequences of non-compliance.
- Tracks attendance, academic and behavioral performance for each orientation cohort and provides weekly updates on cohort retention to the Principal and Assistant Principal.
- Collaborates effectively and professionally with peers to develop, plan, and implement best educational practices based upon the individual academic needs of the students that are aligned with company goals.
- Gathers and reviews attendance data to identify students who are excessively truant.
- Assesses students with excessive absences to determine the underlying cause of ongoing absences.
- Makes home visits to follow-up with chronically absent students.
- Communicates with parents, and assist them in ensuring that their child is attending school regularly and increase parent/guardian awareness of attendance laws and the consequences of non-compliance.
- Collaborates with school staff to develop incentive for students who are truant and develops individualized plans to improve attendance.
- Conducts parent conference to address student’s truancy issues.
- Meets and leads Weekly Attendance Staff meetings with Principal, Family Support Specialists & other pertinent school staff to discuss,
- Reason for consecutive absence
- Barriers that need to be addressed
- Next steps – RTI discussions where necessary
- Print and mail attendance letters and ensure all efforts are documented correctly in STARS and in MIS before withdrawing.
- Monitor and analyze school attendance and retention performance and report data trends to administration.
- Follow up with students within 30 days to 120 days of withdrawal to reengage and evaluate re-enrollment.
- Assist in all initiatives to ensure school meets defined FTE enrollment, attendance, retention, and performance metric goals.
- Assist school administration in all school operation duties regarding student attendance and truancy.
- Degree or formal training in social work preferred.
- Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in social work. Field work placement in school setting or related human service area, i.e., community mental health, social service agency, etc. School Social Work experience preferred. In lieu of Social Work education, experience managing or creating programs around truancy accepted.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated computer literacy skills, and word processing abilities.
- Bilingual in local area languages
- Customer Service experience are preferred.
- Valid Florida driver's license.
Salary : $44,000 - $50,000
