Reporting to the Vice President, Quality and R&D, the Quality Assurance & Food Safety Manager will plan, direct, coordinate, and oversee the quality function at our Sanders Candy manufacturing facility, in Clinton Township, MI. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and auditing the quality assurance program to ensure safe, consistent, wholesome, and premium quality products in accordance with company, state, and federal standards.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develops, manages, and maintains quality assurance program complementary to corporate policies and goals.
- Responsible for effectively administering and maintaining compliance with company’s established HACCP/Food Safety Plans, including the plan itself as well as supporting pre-requisite programs and sanitation control programs to ensure compliance with corporate, state, and federal requirements.
- Responsible for vendor quality communications and enforcement, and QA receiving standards and policies.
- Reviews all data obtained during all quality assurance activities to ensure consistency with company policies and procedures.
- Applies statistical process control (SPC) methods for analyzing data to evaluate the current process and process changes.
- Working closely with the Operations team, develops innovative approaches to solve problems identified during quality assurance activities.
- Keeps management team abreast of significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and actions being taken to improve the situation.
- Prepares and presents technical and program information to the management team.
- Maintains complete knowledge of government and industry food safety / quality assurance codes and standards.
- Oversees and approves quality assurance training programs to key personnel with managers.
- Investigates customer concerns regarding quality and works closely with Operations to troubleshoot.
- Supports Recall Coordinator on Recall planning and administration
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Capabilities, Experience, and Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field
- 7 years’ experience in Quality Assurance or related field.
- At least one year of supervisory experience
- HACCP certification required.
- BRC / SQF practitioner certification or training required
- FSPCA PCQI certification
- FSPCA Food Defense certification
- Must have excellent writing skills and be able to effectively communicate details.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred.
- Demonstrated organizational and analytical skills.
- Must be a self-starter and detail orientated
- Must be able to maintain positive working relationships with all levels of management.
