The Office of the Secretary of State is seeking to fill multiple permanent, full-time Associate Management Auditor positions in the Executive Division’s Internal Audit Office. The Agency will consider the Staff Services Management Auditor (SSMA) classification for purposes of this recruitment. Duties will be commensurate with the level of the classification hired.

Conducts complex audits throughout the Secretary of State’s office (SOS), including financial, performance, and compliance audits, as well as investigations and special assignment audits. Gathers preliminary information necessary to develop criteria and performance measures applicable to audits. Obtains an understanding of the program under audit and documents processes. Develops audit objectives and scope and participates in entrance and exit conferences. Effectively prioritizes work to meet audit objectives and timetables and ensures compliance with relevant laws, regulations, policies, and auditing standards. Determines the adequacy of internal controls and risk associated with audit objectives. Performs substantive testing to determine any misstatements and documents analysis, findings, and conclusions based on sufficient, competent, and relevant information. Prepares complex audit reports, memorandums, and briefing documents related to audits performed. Monitors, tracks, and coordinates follow-up activities to ensure recommendations related to audit findings are implemented in a timely manner. Confers with the Senior Management Auditor and/or Staff Management Auditor on a recurring basis to discuss audit-related activities such as audit planning, audit assignments, status of audits-in-progress, findings, communication of results, and follow-up regarding corrective action.

Desirable Qualifications: The most desirable candidate will have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Experience performing audits for state agencies or outside companies
  • Knowledge of government auditing standards and experience applying these standards in completing audit work
  • Ability to interact effectively with high-level officials and departmental personnel
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and take initiative
  • Ability to recognize and evaluate problems and take appropriate action
  • Ability to prioritize, schedule work effectively, and adapt to ever-changing priorities
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments simultaneously
  • Ability to maintain professional integrity, trustworthiness and discretion concerning sensitive matters
  • Ability to promote an equitable and inclusive workplace, where diversity is celebrated and valued
  • Certified Public Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, or Certified Information Systems Auditor certification
