Job Summary:

This is a leadership position responsible for providing finance and accounting support to SECU departments.

Objectives for the Finance and Accounting team are generally categorized into:

  • Month-end close – oversee the month-end responsibilities to ensure results are reported accurately and in a timely manner
  • Planning and Reporting – support departments with timely and accurate financial reporting, explaining results and variances against targets and support SECU as a whole to meet its financial objectives
  • Business Support – support Department Executives with internal presentations and business cases including ad-hoc business projects and requests

Duties & Responsibilities:

The Finance Director is responsible for directing a department or group from a finance and accounting perspective including maintaining accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, managing all audits, exams, and required regulatory filings.

Oversee the month-end close process to ensure results are reported accurately in accordance with GAAP and SECU accounting policies.

Produce monthly financial reporting with transparent variance analysis including prior month, budget and forecast variances

Lead department or group through annual profit planning process including rationalizing corporate objectives and investments. Serve as a central coordination point between the Financial Planning department, Financial Executives and assigned departments to implement corporate directives into the financial plans. Work closely with Department Executive to ensure their agreement and incorporate their directives into SECUs overall financial plan.

Lead department or group through the monthly forecasting process including meeting with Department Executive to ensure changing business needs are communicated across Finance and up through the Executive Team.

Manage the accounting responsibilities for supported department or group. Responsibilities include: ensuring GAAP compliance, managing the monthly accounting cycle, maintaining appropriate controls to ensure the timely and accurate posting of entries for all transactions, ensuring accurate completion of board and management reports including fluctuation analysis and narrative on results, and ensuring all assigned account reconciliations are up-to-date and in compliance with reconciliation policy. Provide first line execution and oversight for financial reporting controls and risk for Finance processes. Provide accounting guidance to Department leadership and consult with Accounting Policy, as appropriate, on matters including but not limited to capitalization, revenue recognition, accruals, and fixed asset accounting.

Assist in preparation of ad hoc analysis to support business decision and direction

Develop value added financial reporting for managing business performance including key ratios

Analyze the financial details of past, present and expected operations in order to identify development opportunities

Maintain current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, current accounting standards, state and federal regulations, GAAP, and ensure compliance with all

Prepare or direct preparation of internal and external financial statements, and reports required by regulatory agencies

Implement and maintain accounting and control systems that reflect industry best-practices and comply with GAAP

Provide leadership, talent development, and mentoring for team members to improve their technical expertise; review and approve work of other team members. Foster a team environment that promotes diversity and inclusion broadly across the organization. Ensure that changes to reporting process workflow and/ or data source are documented and communicated to downstream reporting groups.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent education and related training.

Five to ten years of in accounting management with an emphasis on financial services

Must possess strong judgement, professional maturity and personal integrity.

Must possess strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills - ability to synthesize financial information into concise, insightful and actionable recommendations comfortable interacting with and presenting to all levels of management. Confidence to challenge the status quo and drive change

Excellent quantitative and analytical problem solving skills.

Exceptional attention to detail related to providing accurate and timely data

Expertise in creating (PowerPoint) and delivering presentations to groups and ability to manage concurrent projects

Ability to comprehend and clearly communicate complex concepts in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and provide strong documentation

High degree of patience for working through multiple iterations of work, dealing with the demands of senior management and varying project subject matter

Experience leading a team with multiple direct reports

Proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Office Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and other basic software products.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree or MBA

CPA or CFA

Familiarity with Workday Financial Management
