Responsibilities
- Database Design and Architecture:
- Design and implement DB2 databases to meet business requirements.
- Optimize database schema, indexing, and query performance.
- Database Maintenance:
- Monitor database health, performance, and storage utilization.
- Perform regular backups, recovery, and failover operations.
- Apply patches, upgrades, and fixes to ensure system stability.
- Performance Tuning:
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.
- Implement best practices for database optimization and query tuning.
- Security and Compliance:
- Configure user roles, permissions, and access controls.
- Ensure databases comply with organizational and regulatory security standards.
- Troubleshooting:
- Resolve database-related issues and outages.
- Collaborate with developers, application teams, and infrastructure teams to diagnose problems.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed documentation of database configurations, processes, and procedures.
- Generate reports for usage, performance, and capacity planning.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in DB2 on z/OS.
- Knowledge of SQL, stored procedures, Trusted Context, triggers, DB2 PureXML, and other database objects.
- Familiarity with tools like IBM Data Studio and DB2 Query Monitor.
- Performance Monitoring and Tuning:
- Use tools for analyzing and optimizing performance.
- Experience with database compression, partitioning, and clustering.
- Backup and Recovery:
- Expertise in database recovery methods.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex database issues effectively.
- Strong task management and communication skills.
ESSENTIAL:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
- 5 years expertise as a DB2 DBA
- Certification in DB2 Database Administration (ex. IBM Certified Database Administrator) is a plus
- SQL DBA experience
