What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deputy Director, Planning & Preparedness position at Secure Community Network?
We are Secure Community Network (SCN), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) serving as the official safety and security organization of the Jewish community in North America. We are hiring a Deputy Director, Planning & Preparedness to lead and manage all SCN Planning and Preparedness functions, including Training, Protective Security and Intelligence, Emergency Preparedness, and Community Protection, as well as assist with incident response and recovery efforts.
WHAT YOU WILL DO :
- Leads, oversees, and manages the design, direction, and execution of all Planning and Preparedness programs, including relevant SCN functions and associated personnel.
- Designs, develops, and leads strategic planning and implementation efforts related to Planning and Preparedness as a key component of the larger organization, providing leadership, vision, and management to relevant programs and team members in support of SCN's broader efforts and the Jewish community.
- Coordinates Planning and Preparedness-related assets, programs, and personnel with the activities and needs of SCN, partners, and identified stakeholders.
- Oversees the Training function to ensure the design, development, updating, implementation, and tracking of relevant training, workshops, seminars, and exercises, as well as other forums as identified, based on current and emergent threats facing the Jewish community, and to include content, curriculum, and / or related collateral.
- Oversees the Community Protection Program to address Threat Vulnerability & Risk Assessment efforts, including platforms and tools, and physical security efforts, to include the identification of physical security solutions, the development and adherence to technical standards, and relevant purchasing or contracting vehicles.
- Oversees the Protective Security & Intelligence Program to ensure the safety and security of individuals who may be exposed to elevated personal risk due to their roles, affiliations, or employment in the Jewish community.
- Oversees the Emergency Preparedness Program responsible for developing, executing, and managing the national program dedicated to implementing complex emergency preparedness policies, programs, and procedures for diverse stakeholders to establish national best practices and standards, including ensuring staff compliance with NIMS and ICS required courses.
- Acts as a member of the SCN Executive Leadership Team and represents the National Director and organization as required, active in daily management decisions.
- Ensures overall interoperability and cross-functionality with other components of the organization, collaborating across teams to advance the mission and achieve organizational goals.
- Develops and implements the annual section budget and monitors expenses related to specific department needs.
- Participates in and / or directs the recruitment, training, professional development, and capacity-building of relevant staff.
- Ensures all department-specific policies and procedures are up-to-date and understood by all direct reports.
- Stays current regarding training standards, codes, and statutes that affect SCN and the Jewish community.
- Provides required or requested assistance to partner organizations.
- Supports SCN surge efforts in affected communities or communities with relevant SCN Programs.
- Assists in Incident Response and Recovery during Activation Periods for SCN.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $175,000-$185,000. Final annual salary offered will be determined through a thorough assessment of multiple factors and criteria which may include candidate experience and qualifications, available market data, internal salary equity, and budget considerations.
