What are the responsibilities and job description for the Client Underwriting Manager position at Securian Financial Group?
**Key Role in Affinity's Growth and Margin Expansion**
Affinity Solutions has aggressive growth and margin expansion goals, and this position will play a key role in both these goals. The position will lead the Affinity Solutions Client Underwriting team in providing financial quotes for all lines of business within Affinity - this would include Credit Protection, Direct Response, Specialty P/C and Securian Specialty Lines for affinity groups, including financial institutions, associations, and distributors.
This position requires an understanding of underwriting principles, strong analytical skills, the ability to manage a team of underwriters, and the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- **Critical Evaluation of Risk and Financial Returns**
- Evaluation of risk and financial returns is critical to Affinity's success across its varied lines of business and will require working collaboratively with other teams within Affinity to ensure underwriting decisions align with Affinity's risk tolerance and ROE/margin targets while also growing the business. This can include the assessment of financial condition of clients, distributors, and reinsurers.
- **Accountability for Overall Performance**
- Accountable for overall CFEM (profitability measure) targets. Identify trends and recommend and implement case management actions.
- **Compliance and Regulatory Standards**
- The Client Underwriting Manager ensures that all quotes and financial arrangements comply with legal and regulatory standards while also striving to appropriately balance sales and earnings targets.
- **Quote and Proposal Management**
- Complete quotes and financial proposals (new and renewal) in accordance with pricing/underwriting guidelines and service standards.
- **Team Leadership and Development**
- Complete regular performance reviews and feedback, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment and bringing forward professional development opportunities for the team.
- **Financial Reporting and Compliance**
- Oversee the preparation and accuracy of non-reinsurance contingent compensation calculations and accruals.
- Oversee the preparation and accuracy of timely financial reporting to state insurance departments of our insurance lines of business. (CIEEs, deviation filings, illustrative reporting requirements (routine and on demand))
- **Client and Business Review**
- Oversee and participate in quarterly business reviews with clients and distributors.
- **Client Proposal Delivery**
- Participate as needed in the client proposal delivery, including traveling to large finalist presentations
