Security Benefit (SB), a leader in the U.S. retirement market, is hiring for an Actuarial Assistant I with relevant work experience and one or more SOA exams to work in the Actuarial Department. This position will work in our home office in Topeka, Kansas or Overland Park, Kansas. SB associates are working in a hybrid environment with both remote and on-site work.

What Does the Job Look Like?
The Actuarial Assistant I provides actuarial analysis and technical skills in support of fulfilling the strategic objectives for the Actuarial Department. They contribute to the management and financial success of annuity and retirement products by developing actuarial models, model testing, and performing special projects. The ideal candidate must possess strong programming, financial and analytical skills and be able to successfully work with other functions within the company, including Pricing, Actuarial Modeling, Valuation and FP&A Departments in support of a variety of actuarial initiatives.
Maintain Prophet annuity model for in-force and projected new business
Interpret and analyze model results
Compiles data and assumptions for models
Communicates and document results
Assist with developing modeling solutions for business planning needs
Who Are You?
Bachelor’s degree with major or minor in Actuarial Science or Mathematics
Candidates with at least one SOA exams will be considered, VEE credits a plus
Commitment to pursue an actuarial credential demonstrated by preparation for Society of Actuaries administered exams or exam credit
Two years of actuarial experience preferred but not required
Strong computer skills including Excel and actuarial software
Good written and verbal communication skills
Strong problem solving, analytical and decision-making skills
Strong initiative and ability to work independently
Preferred requirements:
Annuity and life insurance experience preferred
Experience with Prophet modeling software preferred
Strong programming / scripting skills including VBA, SQL, or Python preferred
