Security Benefit is seeking an Investment Accounting Intern to join our finance team. This role is available work at our Overland Park, Kansas, or Des Moines, Iowa, office. The intern will report to the Senior Investment Accountant. SB associates are working in a hybrid environment with both remote and on-site work.

Duties and Responsibilities may include:
Assist in accounting for various complex investments, including debt instruments, equity investments, and derivatives. Gain practical experience in handling investment transactions and financial data. Support the reconciliation of accounts and ensure accurate financial data.
Contribute to the accounting processes for investment holding entities, including transaction initiation and preparation for external/reporting. Learn the workflow from transaction entry to reporting.
Aid in reviewing variance analysis and other analytical reviews for investment entities. Develop skills in data analysis and report findings to help understand financial performance.
Help review quarterly general ledger reconciliations to ensure accuracy with subledgers and source systems. Learn about reconciliation processes and their importance in financial reporting.
Assist in preparing audit-related work papers for interim and annual audits. Address follow-up questions and inquiries, gaining exposure to audit procedures and compliance.
Prepare monthly and quarterly investment schedules and materials for investor reporting, STAT reporting, GAAP reporting and reinsurance entities
Eligibility
Students eligible for the internship will be current, full-time students available to work at least 19 hours a week, beginning as soon as possible. Student will be expected to work during the semester, this is not a summer only internship.
Qualifications:
Full-time student in accounting and/or finance with at least a 3.5 GPA in majors. Current junior or senior preferred
Willingness to develop industry-related knowledge
Proficient with Microsoft Applications (Excel, Powerpoint, Word, and Outlook)
Strong analytical, problem solving, communication, decision making, and organizational skills
Ability to think objectively and analytically
Ability to work with various levels of management
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines for reporting
