Summary Of Position
The Underwriting position focuses on all primary functions of underwriting to support profitable growth and retention of business within our organization. Duties include handling more complex new business submissions, renewals, and midterm endorsement requests while adhering to applicable statutory compliance, prescribed authority levels and company guidelines. Manage follow ups and review inspections to determine acceptability, rating, pricing, and risk exposure. This position is responsible for supporting our Agency distribution channels.

- Underwrite complex new and renewal policies within guidelines, endorse/cancel existing policies and carefully review requests for exceptions and reinstatements.
- Thorough understanding of underwriting guidelines and how they drive the automated procedures that screen applicants and ultimately lead to acceptance or rejection of submissions.
- Review claim losses to assess risk quality and compliance within company guidelines and initiate appropriate loss prevention actions, follow to conclusion.
- Ability to identify and define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Possess creative underwriting skills to improve risk quality for retention purposes.
- Maintain proper response time on work types such as new business submissions, referrals, follow ups, inspections, phone calls, and emails including database logging and journal notes on policies.
- Assist agencies with information as needed with proper handling. Add journal note to the policy on all correspondence and phone calls.
- Advanced use of all systems and tools necessary for job accuracy: including but not limited to FileNet, Agent Portal, Carina, INow, Chat, Mailboat and phone system and call tracking databases.
- Work with Underwriting Supervisor to further develop team performance, provide feedback for performance reviews and assist with internal auditing.
- Suggest workflow and process improvements to enhance efficiency.
- Maintain a thorough understanding and knowledge of Personal Lines Insurance products relating to our business in order to correctly answer complex inquiries from team members and agency staff.
- May be asked to lead or support projects, which may include data development, analysis, and reporting to Senior Management.

- High school diploma or GED
- One (1) year underwriting experience
- OR an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience
- Current 4-40 Customer Service Representative License in good standing or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment
