What are the responsibilities and job description for the Locksmith/Security Technician position at Security Locksmiths?
Locksmith / Security Systems Technician
Full‑Time (or Part‑Time option) – based in St Cloud, MN with regional travel
Why Join Security Locksmiths?
Security Locksmiths is St. Cloud’s original locksmith company with a 50‑year reputation for professionalism and integrity. Today we’re in the most exciting growth phase in our history:
- New Illinois Branch. 2025 marks the launch of our second office, giving employees the chance to help build something from the ground up.
- Territory that keeps expanding. We now serve customers all the way from northern Minnesota to the greater Chicago area—and we’re not stopping there.
- Travel & variety. Techs who enjoy hitting the road can rack up mileage on multi‑day projects in Minneapolis‑St Paul, Duluth, Madison, Milwaukee, and Chicago. (All travel expenses are company‑paid; overnight per‑diem provided.)
If you like the idea of mastering a craft and exploring new cities while you do it, this is the place.
What You’ll Do
- Master the full spectrum of security work. You’ll be cross‑trained by Master Locksmiths and a PLT‑accredited owner in:
- Mechanical locksmithing—keying, pinning, re‑keying, safe work
- Electronic access control—card readers, keypads, smart locks
- Burglar & camera systems—installation, service, networking
- Diagnose & solve problems. Use meters, hand tools, and diagnostic software to track down faults and restore security devices to peak performance.
- Own your projects. From single lock re‑keys to multi‑site access‑control rollouts, you’ll plan, install, and document solutions that keep facilities secure.
- Travel as much (or as little) as you want. Prefer to stay local? Great. Want to see Chicago next week? Also great—we staff projects to fit each tech’s appetite for the road.
- Represent the brand. Act with professionalism, discretion, and integrity at every customer site—whether it’s a farmhouse in rural Minnesota or a Fortune 500 HQ in Chicago.
What We’re Looking For
- Curious, mechanically minded problem‑solver. If you’ve ever taken apart a gadget just to see how it works, you’ll fit right in.
- Ability to read basic wiring diagrams and use an ohmmeter (or eagerness to learn fast).
- Comfortable with ladders, small‑hand tools, and occasional attic/basement work.
- Clean criminal history—background screening is mandatory to protect our clients.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to drive a service van across the Upper Midwest.
- No formal education requirements; veterans, career changers, and recent grads welcome.
What We Offer
- Pay that grows with you. Competitive starting wage; rapid increases as you add new certifications and take on out‑of‑state projects.
- All travel expenses covered (vehicle, fuel, lodging, per‑diem).
- Medical, dental, vision, retirement plan with company match.
- Tool allowance company‑provided specialty tools.
- Paid industry training, manufacturer certifications, and annual trade‑show trips.
- Generous PTO & paid holidays; flexible scheduling for part‑time roles.
- A tight‑knit team where owners work shoulder‑to‑shoulder with technicians.

If you want a career where every door you open creates another opportunity—literally and figuratively—apply today. Whether you make your mark in St Cloud or on projects all the way to Chicago, you’ll be part of a growing company that invests in your success.
