SRMC is recruiting on behalf of Nebraska Medicine.

This is a new position with Nebraska Medicine that will oversee physical security functions and staff of the organization. Responsible for the development, implementation and management of the organization's security strategies, policies, and programs. The position will ensure the protection of Nebraska Medicine's physical assets, intellectual property, and colleague safety. The role involves strategic planning, risk management, and collaboration with other leaders and departments to integrate security measures through the organization.

Essential Functions

  • Execution (Operations Management). 30.0%

1.1 Manage operations through the development, monitoring and achievement of goals and tactics that support consistent high quality services and drive operations in alignment with strategic plans. Develop, monitor and manage the budget process in alignment with organizational guidelines.

1.2 Effectively utilize organizational information systems and data related to operational management.

  • Leading People (Human Resources). 20.0%

2.1 Build an effective workforce by following established hiring and interviewing practices and guidelines, labor/scope of practice laws, and effective use of labor resources.

2.2 Promote and ensure a positive work environment, influence retention, interpret and apply consistency in managing a diverse qualified, efficient, and engaged workforce.

2.3 Perform talent management activities and succession planning activities with a focus on leadership development, goal setting, leadership accountability, mentoring, and support of career growth opportunities through stretch assignments and expanded roles.

2.4 Coach and develop staff by providing effective and timely feedback to include recognizing employees and addressing performance using the performance management system.

2.5 Effectively utilize organizational information systems and data related to human resources.

  • Transformation (Continuous Improvement and Relationship Management). 20.0%

3.1 Develop and communicate ambitious performance measures with leadership to improve outcomes.

3.2 Create and support a culture that maximizes the acceptance of change.

3.3 Apply quality and problem solving tools in leading and collaborating with others to improve outcomes (including patient safety) and processes.

3.4 Effectively utilize organizational information systems and data related to continuous improvement.

  • Strategic Management. 20.0%

4.1 Develop, execute, monitor, adapt and achieve outcomes/goals of a product line or departmental plan to support the strategic objectives of the organization, which optimizes collaborative and partnered relationships. (e.g. operational, quality, employee engagement, financial).

  • Regulatory/Compliance. 10.0%

5.1 Ensure staff and self are educated on an ongoing basis and in compliance with state, federal, and regulatory agency(s) requirements, in addition to adherence with organizational and departmental policies, procedures and practices of the organization.

Required Qualifications

5.2 Perform other work assignments as required.

Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field required.

Minimum 7 years of experience in security, law enforcement, or emergency management required.

Minimum 5 Years Of Leadership Experience Required.

Experience managing security technology and systems (e.g., access control, video surveillance, emergency response systems) required.

Proven experience in emergency preparedness and incident response in healthcare or other critical infrastructure required.

Familiarity with Joint Commission (TJC) regulations and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards related to hospital security required.

Ability to develop and execute long-term physical security strategies required.

Expertise in conducting risk and vulnerability assessments required.

Familiarity with healthcare-specific security policies and compliance standards (e.g., HIPAA, TJC) required.

Experience with modern physical security systems, surveillance tools, and emergency alert systems required.

Ability to lead during crises such as lockdowns, evacuations, and emergency responses required.

Capacity to analyze incident data and security trends to make data-driven decisions required.

Ability to engage with leadership, staff, and external partners (like law enforcement or emergency responders) required.

Skills in handling sensitive interpersonal situations related to safety, visitor control, and employee incidents required.

Knowledge of tools and systems such as access control, video surveillance, incident reporting systems, emergency communication systems, etc. required.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree preferred.

Healthcare Or Hospital Leadership Experience Preferred.

Professional certifications such as CPP, PSP, or CHPA are highly desirable.

  • Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA) – Preferred for healthcare security.
  • Certified Protection Professional (CPP) – Recognized in broader security leadership roles.
  • Physical Security Professional (PSP) – Focused on physical security systems and infrastructure.
