Journeyman Lineman – Sedgwick County Electric Cooperative

Sedgwick County Electric Cooperative is accepting resumes for a full-time Journeyman Lineman located in Cheney, Kansas. The Journeyman Lineman position is responsible for providing manpower, knowledge, and workmanship which are necessary to perform job duties for the proper construction, maintenance, and operation of the electric system.

Sedgwick is a financially sound, rapidly growing, member-owned, electric distribution cooperative providing service to 8,300 meters and 1,215 miles of line. Sedgwick provides electric service to its members in 5 counties in South Central Kansas. Sedgwick’s headquarters is based in Cheney, KS.

Qualifications:

Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and hold a journeyman lineman certificate. Completion of a Certified Lineman Apprenticeship training program is required. Must have and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Kansas driver’s license without an L, Z, or K restriction and an insurable driving record. Will be required to live within a 15-minute drive of Sedgwick County Electric headquarters.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Determines need for and recommends to Foreman tools and equipment needed for performance of work.

Attends and participates in job safety, job site tailgate discussions and training programs.

Sees that all safety precautions and procedures are rigidly observed by himself and all assigned personnel.

Councils and cooperates with members on service problems and service complaints within area of responsibility and recommends to Foreman corrective action if required.

Operates and maintains assigned transportation equipment, material, tools and work equipment in proper condition and quantity.

Reports to Foreman for remedial action defective tools, materials, supplies, and transportation equipment.

Receives service orders, completes necessary work and reports finding as necessary to Foreman.

Performs and supervises when directed to do so, the performance of maintenance and construction which include:

Dig pole and anchor holes.

Set and align poles and anchors.

Make up and install all types of guys.

String, sag, armor rod, and tie in all sizes of conductor on poles or structures.

Perform necessary work on energized facilities, regardless of voltage, in accordance with prescribed methods.

Frame and install on the ground or in the air, pole assemblies.

Install and maintain streetlights, security lights, and related equipment.

Trim and cut trees or brush and dispose of debris.

Load and unload poles, transformers, and other material.

Splice broken conductor, reset broken poles, replace fuses in cutouts and perform other construction, operation and maintenance work as directed or required.

Routine patrolling of lines.

Direct and perform hot line maintenance work, such as replacing insulators and crossarms, tighten hardware, and other preventive maintenance work.

Install and connect transformers, fuse cutouts, arrestors, voltage regulators, oil circuit reclosures, sectionalizers and other electrical apparatus.

Trim, cut and spray trees or brush and dispose of debris.

Maintain oil circuit reclosures and sectionalizers.

Repair wire ravels on all conductors.

All other maintenance and operation that come to his/her attention or is directed to do.

Install and maintain underground facilities.
