PT Event Support Staff
Job Summary
This position is a part-time seasonal role that supports the Events Department with activities relating to event rentals and special events. Event Support Staff execute and monitor events, including staging, setup and tear-down of all related equipment. This position is required to work evenings and weekends. Majority of work is outdoors in the various Zoo venue spaces.
Primary Job Functions (list three with specific tasks listed)
Private, Group, and Special Events
- Execute event staging, setup and tear-down, including moving all related equipment – chairs, tables, etc.
- Operate golf cart shuttles to transport guests.
- Monitor event activities to ensure the client and event expectations are achieved.
- Resolve any issues or problems that arise during events and effectively communicate solutions.
- On non-event days, perform upkeep, cleaning and assistance in storage of all event supplies.
- Assist with setup and tear-down of special events.
- Provide support during Zoo sponsored special events, including, but not limited to, Zoobilee and Easter Eggstravaganza.
Birthday Parties
- Serve as an in-person host for Zoo birthday parties, which includes all setup, tear-down and interacting with guests.
- Monitor birthday party supplies and communicate needs when inventory is low.
- Seek to enhance the guest’s party experience by displaying an enthusiastic and helpful attitude.
- Keep birthday parties on schedule by communicating with client and assisting in cake cutting, trash pick up, etc.
Customer Service
- Provide friendly and helpful customer service by assisting event attendees with inquiries, directions, and general event information.
- Use time efficiently to complete assigned tasks.
- Actively seek ways to streamline processes and stay open to new ideas and approaches.
- Maintain a pleasant demeanor and positive attitude while working under any conditions.
- Form and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, customers, and team participants.
Secondary Job Functions (list no more than five)
- Complete required training and safely operates all zoo required equipment for completion of job duties while following zoo policies and procedures.
- Represent the Zoo and/or Sedgwick County at various offsite events such as regional, national, and international conferences, meetings, community events, outreach programs, etc.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- 16 years in age.
- Valid US driver’s license without restrictions.
- Must be available to work evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working outdoors.
Working Environment/Conditions
The employee is subject to activities that occur in both inside and outside environmental conditions. The employee is subject to potential hazards of working with and near dangerous animals. The employee may be exposed to zoonotic diseases. Employee must be able to work a schedule that involves working weekends, holidays, or after regular work shifts.
Physical Requirements
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. May be required to walk or stand for extended periods of time and do repetitive tasks with few breaks within indoor and outdoor environments. The employee is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
