Work Schedule : M-F 8 to 5 and on call required

The Video Surveillance Technician is responsible for overseeing the installation, configuration, maintenance, and optimization of security camera systems and server infrastructure to ensure seamless and secure operations. This role includes managing video data storage in compliance with regulatory standards, administering user access and permissions, and providing staff training for ethical system use. Additionally, the administrator handles server hardware and software management, troubleshooting, and network integration to maintain reliability and performance. They also lead project-based initiatives, such as cable installation, by defining scope, coordinating resources, evaluating vendors, mitigating risks, and ensuring quality control. Strong technical expertise, effective communication, and adherence to industry standards are essential to success in this role.

Security Camera System Administration

  • Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of security camera systems, including hardware, software, and related infrastructure.
  • Monitor the performance and functionality of the security camera network to ensure uninterrupted operations and promptly troubleshoot any issues to minimize downtime.
  • Manage and secure the storage of video data, ensuring compliance with data retention policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Evaluate and implement system upgrades, patches, and firmware updates to enhance functionality and security.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls, and provide training to staff on the proper use of the security camera systems.
  • Assist with Development and enforce policies for the ethical use of security cameras, ensuring adherence to legal and organizational standards for privacy and surveillance.

Server Administration

  • Provide rapid response and corrective actions to minimize downtime, ensuring users experience minimal work interruptions.
  • Install, configure, and customize server hardware and software, including operating systems to meeting organizational requirements.
  • Communicate with vendors to obtain technical support for server-related hardware and software.
  • Configure and manage server interfaces with other software applications and computer networks to maintain compatibility and performance.
  • Support departmental administrators in the installation and maintenance of network systems, adhering to established standards and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Complete scheduled maintenance tasks, including Tech Weekend work with clear and effective communication of objectives and results.
  • Project Management

  • Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables related to cable instillation, while coordinating resources to meet milestones on time and within budget.
  • Identify and evaluate vendors for cable materials and services, negotiate contracts to secure favorable terms, and ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Track project progress against timelines and budgets, generating regular reports on status, vendor performance, and milestones achieved.
  • Identify potential risks related to cable projects and vendor management, and develop strategies to mitigate these risks to ensure project continuity.
  • Provide regular updates to stakeholders about project status and vendor performance, while promptly addressing any issues or concerns.
  • Minimum Qualifications : High School diploma or equivalent. One year of experience working with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of video surveillance equipment. Up to one year of experience (all) may be substituted with education that provides applicable knowledge and skills. Per Sedgwick County Policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid US driver’s license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance.
