Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Per Diem Nurse (RN or LPN) to join our Refractive Ophthalmology Practice, which features a fully accredited office-based surgery suite. The ideal candidate will have relevant experience in clinical patient care, particularly in pre-operative and post-operative recovery, as well as direct patient communication during follow-up visits.
If you are not already experienced in ophthalmic surgery, a willingness to learn and develop skills in this field is essential. Responsibilities will vary depending on your experience and abilities, but may include, but are not limited to, conducting patient assessments, assisting with patient preparation, and supporting patient recovery.
Responsibilities
- Provide pre-operative, intraoperative, and post-operative care to patients.
- Prepare patients for surgery by: ensuring all pre-surgery forms are complete, accurate, and signed; measuring vital signs; documenting necessary patient intake information; administering eye drops and medications as prescribed; and collaborating with the surgeon and surgical team to ensure the patient is fully prepared for the procedure.
- Perform as a circulator in the operating room, document all OR forms appropriately, handle sterile supplies and instruments using aseptic technique, assist the surgeon and scrub tech during surgery, and maintain patient safety intraoperatively.
- Monitor and assess patients' conditions and report any changes or concerns to the healthcare team.
- Monitor and recover the patient in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU).
- Educate patients and their families on post-operative care and educate patients regarding post-operative medications, and self-care.
- Discharge patients from the facility in a safe and appropriate manner, ensuring all needs are met prior to discharge.
- Work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
- Valid, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license OR Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) License in Florida.
- Degree from an accredited school of nursing.
- Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience in a clinical setting.
- BLS Required. ACLS Preferred.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and medication administration.
- Pre Op, PACU or Operating Room experience Preferred.
- A positive attitude, adaptability, and a willingness to learn and grow within the field of ophthalmic surgery.
