TITLE: District-wide English as a Second Language Teacher/Language Acquisition Specialist Long-Term Substitute
DURATION: April 28, 2025 (approx.) until end of 2024-2025 school year
LOCATION: Based at the Dr. Kevin M. Hurley Middle School
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: All qualified candidates
REPORTS TO: Building Principals and District ELL Coordinator
QUALIFICATIONS:
To be considered qualified for this position, candidates must minimally have the following:
- Appropriate MA certification as an ESL teacher K-12
- Experience working with ELL students K-12
- Knowledge of WIDA Standards/ACCESS Testing
RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS which include but are not limited to:
- Assist Limited English Proficient students in English language acquisition including academic and social vocabulary, grammar, and syntax at all levels and schools within the district
- Provide direct instruction to facilitate academic integration with peers
- Focus on speaking, listening, comprehension, reading and writing development
- Work with a diverse student population to facilitate social interaction, communication, and familiarity with habits and norms
- Consult with regular education teachers and support service providers to assist instruction and facilitate participation in all school activities
- Assess students for proficiency in language acquisition, monitor progress, assist with transition, termination of services, and follow-up
- Utilize appropriate textbooks and other materials, thematic units, project-based instruction, and language instruction aligned with grade-appropriate content standards
- Administer and interpret the ACCESS Testing
- Demonstrate effective collaboration skills with special education teachers, regular education staff, and administrators
- Other duties as assigned by ELL Coordinator
