Purpose: The Information Technology (IT) Director will lead our information technology infrastructure and operations. This role is critical in ensuring our systems and networks are efficient, secure, and scalable. The IT Director will drive strategic initiatives, manage critical IT projects, and lead a diverse team.
Primary Responsibilities:
IT Strategy And Execution
- Develop and implement IT strategies aligned with SEIU’s objectives and goals.
- Determine long-term data and technology needs for SEIU and participate in the development of an enterprise-wide strategy for systems development, hardware acquisition, and integration;
- Lead, manage and mentor the IT team, fostering a collaborative environment that exemplifies SEIU’s values;
- Be responsible for the planning, execution, and management of IT projects to support business goals;
- Manage relationships with external vendors and manage the internal tooling they provide;
- Propose budgets for programs and projects, purchases and upgrades equipment, supervise activities of the IT Department;
- Ensure that the breadth of data and technology work is carried out in a way that supports SEIU’s work toward becoming an anti-racist organization;
- Ensure technical support, help desk services, networking, database and systems areas align with SEIU’s organizational process, tactical planning and strategic vision;
- Manage the IT staff and vendors, and consultants ensuring the integrity, confidentiality, privacy and security of the union’s data and the safety of the union’s assets;
- Successfully deliver IT projects on time and within budget.
Ensure Robust IT Infrastructure:
- Lead and optimize IT infrastructure, ensuring high availability and performance;
- Implement and maintain security protocols to protect SEIU’s data and systems;
- Develop and maintain plans for disaster recovery and business continuity.
Drive Innovation:
- Identify and implement new technologies to enhance operational efficiency and support innovation;
- Assess the relative impact of emerging technology to determine the potential value for the organization;
- Anticipate and react to major technology changes to ensure the maintenance of the union’s technology in the competitive landscape.
Education & Experience:
- A minimum of seven years’ experience in the Data Science, Systems, or Information Technology space, with significant management and strategic experience;
- Proven history of coaching and mentorship and the ability to recruit and retain talented data and technology professionals;
- Significant experience building and implementing a technology roadmap that aligns with organizational objectives and user needs in a product, engineering, information technology roles, or a related field;
- Experience making resource allocation decisions and overseeing teams or departments with large budgets;
- Ability to actively communicate, inspire and motivate all levels of staff;
- Ability to think and act strategically and proactively;
- Strong writing and presentation skills, specifically relating highly technical concepts to non-technical audiences;
- Advanced technical degree in a field related to machine learning, statistics, analytics, computer science, or information systems preferred;
- Familiarity with Union-specific technology needs, including secure communication, membership systems, data privacy, and compliance with labor regulations, is a strong plus.

Direction and Decision Making: Reports to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
Physical Requirements: Work is generally performed in an office setting. Occasional extended hours and travel required. If a candidate is not located in Washington, D.C., monthly travel to the DC headquarters and for any necessary in-office meetings will be required.
