JOB SUMMARY :
Internal Organizers lead efforts on specific campaigns, work areas, and cover tasks related to the local’s contract campaigns, issue and legislative campaigns, leadership identification and development, membership sign up, and more. Internal Organizers can work with a team or on their own to complete this work. This work involves personal conversations and relationship building, on site work visits and home visits across the state of Minnesota, providing training and feedback for member leaders, and more. Successful candidates will be ready for a fast paced, constantly moving work environment, are highly organized, and are able to balance multiple projects and priorities.
You will be responsible for :
- Identifying, recruiting, training and developing stewards and leaders.
- Conduct bargaining surveys and other research activities to strengthen the negotiating position of assigned bargaining units. Organize around a contract issue and / or strike as needed.
- Developing and implementing plans for worksite campaigns for specific issues including public budget issues, policy issues, unit issues, community issues, contract negotiations, safety, etc.
- Explains contract terms, concepts, benefits and obligations to members and potential members.
- Develop an internal organizing plan for bargaining units.
- Creating or assisting members in creating communication systems; write and edit leaflets, proposals, newsletters, etc.
- Monitoring stewards in their representational duties, including grievances and disciplinary appeals. Follow through where necessary.
- Engages members in participation in union events, political and lobbying activities. Help members hold elected officials accountable.
- Work with community and other groups to advance contract and community campaigns.
