About the role

SEIU 775 is seeking a talented and creative Communications Specialist to join our Communications and Marketing Team. The Communications Specialist will support a variety of teams at SEIU 775 by communicating recent news, actions, and updates with represented caregivers. They will be responsible for developing communications plans, writing copy, designing material, coordinating with production vendors, interviewing caregivers, social media management, and media relations.  

 

Essential Functions:

  • Develop, write, and edit copy including, but not limited to, web content, social media content, flyers, emails, mailers, and newsletters.
  • Write compelling talking points on a variety of topics.
  • Interview caregivers and tell their stories through a variety of mediums.
  • Manage SEIU 775’s social media.
  • Create and place digital ads on a variety of platforms including, but not limited to, Meta and Google.
  • Take photos and videos at Union events, as needed.
  • Create graphics for a variety of mediums including, but not limited to, social media, webpages, flyers, and emails, as needed.
  • Vendor relations/coordination with vendors, as needed.
  • Media relations, as needed.
  • Strategize, lead, and manage multiple projects simultaneously with a range of teams and varying priorities.
  • Sometimes work long, irregular hours, evenings, weekends, and overnight travel in Washington or other states, as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least two to five years of experience in communications, marketing, and/or organizing communications positions.
  • Experience in copywriting and editing.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience managing social media for an organization.
  • Experience with or desire to learn the Adobe Suite, including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro.
  • Experience with building communications plans and (agile) project management.
  • A valid driver’s license and a cellphone.
  • Resume and cover letter required when applying.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Media relations.
  • Experience in web design and content production (WordPress).
  • Have proven success identifying and prepping individuals for speaking engagements and/or spokesperson opportunities.

 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

  • This is a full-time, exempt position. As a Full-Time, Exempt employee you are not eligible for overtime. The expectation of the position is that you will work at least 40 hours a week to meet the demands of the position. The expectation Hours of operation will depend on what you and your supervisor agree to. Must have flexibility in schedule during extended business hours allowing stakeholders to access services. From time to time, the Communications Specialist may be expected to participate in Union activities outside of normal business hours, including weekends and after-hours.
  • This position is 75% remote, 25% at HQ Seattle. The position is normally required to be in the office at least one (1) day weekly (on Wednesdays), or when needed (based on business needs). Department Director has the ability to depict work schedules.   

 

Compensation:

Providing current or previous salary information is optional and will not be factored into hiring decisions. Prospective Employees covered by the CBA can request a copy of the wage scale, the CBA, and any current relevant MOUs upon application to the position.

This position is full-time, exempt. This position is included in the Bargaining Unit. Pay ranges from $81,141 – $96,972 per year. Benefits include vacation, holiday, and sick leave benefits, fully employer paid health, dental, vision, and life insurance, defined benefit pension plan, and optional 401(k), WFH credit, and more.
