The Education Fund is a non-profit partnership between 6 Locals of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and 22 Healthcare Industry employers, serving the education and training needs of 100,000 eligible workers. Our mission is to empower our diverse healthcare workforce to advance in a changing environment through innovative education and training solutions. Our program and budget have doubled in scale over the last five years to provide career advancement and continuing education services to 20,000 learners annually, and we are positioned for continued growth with new partners and funding.
Principal Purpose of Job: Provides career and education counseling to SEIU members interested in advancing in the healthcare field. Also, facilitate the implementation of education and training programs for healthcare workers represented by SEIU UHW-West and other union members who are eligible for Education Fund services.
Level of Authority: Performs routine duties independently, setting priorities and scheduling own work under the general direction of the Director/Assistant Director and in accordance with Ed Fund policies and procedures. Responsible for exercising good judgment, follow-through, good customer service, and management of priorities where failure to address issues on a timely basis could have a serious impact on the effective operation of the Education Fund.
Work Environment
Most of the work is performed in a fast-paced office setting with frequent interruptions and with the need to interact with a diverse group of people and to handle a variety of tasks. Work assignments often require travel to different and distant locations
Essential Job Functions
- Bilingual (Preferred)
- Responsible for providing guidance in Career, Education, and Job Readiness Counseling, Coaching, and Case Management to a diverse caseload of learners with various barriers to secure successful outcomes.
- Assesses the interests, educational background, and career goals of eligible members and provides guidance as to the steps needed to achieve their goals.
- Practice preferred Education Fund Coaching Methodology when engaging learners
- Refers those who do not meet the criteria for specific training programs to explore other Ed Fund programs that will provide program readiness for partnered/union members.
- Participates in the creation and facilitation of presentations/workshops for healthcare employees.
- Supports outreach and recruitment plans based on knowledge of employer facilities -- their employees, work culture, union characteristics, and the labor-management environment.
- Screens applicants for basic eligibility and collects and analyzes relevant data.
- Responsible for understanding and communicating local labor market data (LMI) to provide career and educational guidance.
- Remain current in all program details and program processes to clearly communicate program details with learners to support their decision-making process.
- Works with Education Fund staff to support the learners while in the program and provides case management.
- Responsible for all data entry and case management for learners in programs, to ensure accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting. A minimum of one check-in and case note per learner on a monthly basis.
- Maintain member electronic files. Document participation, completions (training certificates, credentials, degrees), and outcomes as necessary, per various program guidelines.
- Have an awareness of caseload at all times to ensure that all learners are part of case management responsibilities by pulling caseload reports in Salesforce.
- Minimum of 25 hours per week with learners, including updating SUMO availability to reflect learner needs and program openings.
- Performs other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Director/Assistant Director.
- Completes counseling sessions and learner calls that meet the qualitative and quantitative organizational goals.
- Proactively collect success stories from learners across programs.
Qualifications
Qualifications and Capabilities
- BA/BS degree (A degree in career counseling or associated field is required).
- Experience and knowledge of college prerequisites and requirements.
- Knowledge of healthcare occupations and skill requirements.
- Experience within a union and/or healthcare environment preferred.
- Ability to conduct various forms of basic and vocational skills testing.
- Ability to work with a diverse membership is essential.
- Ability to actively listen and adapt to meet the needs of the learners.
- Demonstrate professionalism and commitment to provide a positive experience for the learners.
- Must be able to work independently and develop relationships with educational institutions, unions and healthcare employers.
- Must be committed to working within a labor-management partnership environment.
- Flexible to accommodate changing work requirements.
- Strong written, oral, Microsoft Office, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work well as part of a team.
- Effective time management to build capacity for an increased caseload prior to program launches.
- A valid driver’s license, insurance and automobile in good working order will be required.
Physical Demands
- Ability to drive and move from one site to another for extended periods of time.
- Ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 35 lbs.
