Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting principles and practices, with expertise in areas such as financial auditing, accounts receivable, and payroll management. This role requires a proactive individual who can manage multiple tasks efficiently while ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
The Accountant is the primary fiscal person in the Health Department that is responsible for:
- Preparing and maintaining accurate financial records, including general ledger entries and bank reconciliations.
- Conducting financial analysis to support decision-making processes and improve operational efficiency.
- Managing accounts receivable processes, ensuring timely invoicing and collections.
- Performing and calculating all payroll processing and ensure compliance with applicable regulations. Calculating FICA, income tax and unemployment taxes as well. Maintaining all payroll, personnel and confidential files.
- Assisting in the preparation of financial statements and reports for management review.
- Conducting audits of financial records to ensure accuracy and compliance with established policies.
- Collaborating with other departments to provide financial insights that drive business performance.
- Utilizing QuickBooks for accounting tasks, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately.
- Staying updated on relevant laws, including wills, trusts, estate law, and private equity regulations.
- All grant administration- yearly budgets and monthly affidavits.
- Processing all year-end documents as required by Federal IRS and State
- Expense reports.
- KPERS (Kansas Public Employees' Retirement System).
- All insurance policies, including worker's compensation.
- Unemployment compensation.
- Company health and life insurance.
- Inventory of all equipment.
Experience
- Proven experience as an Accountant or in a similar role within the finance sector.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including financial auditing and analysis.
- Experience with accounts receivable management and payroll processing is essential.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks, or similar accounting software is highly desirable and proficiency in Excel.
- Familiarity with bank reconciliation processes is preferred.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills are crucial for success in this role.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data effectively.
