POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Analytical Chemist, R&D, will develop new analytical methods and ensure best practices in analytical methodology. The desired candidate will have deep experience in separation techniques such as HPLC and GPC and also a good knowledge of spectroscopy and process chemistry. This is a hands-on lab position, but the Analytical Chemist will have the support of lab technicians and will be expected to mentor and provide direction to these technicians. This position will be critical to our success as we continue to grow our product portfolio within Specialty Chemicals and the selected candidate will be expected to support the Sekisui Chemical Group’s 2030 Vision of “Innovation for the Earth.”
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains and promotes a safe work environment, complying with safety policies and procedures
- Hands-on method development in separation techniques, particularly HPLC, GC-MS, and GPC
- Good working knowledge of spectroscopy, including NMR, LC-MS and FT-IR
- Support manufacturing facilities on quality issues as needed
- Documents results of research activities so that findings can be leveraged throughout the company
- Key contributor to cross-functional teams which include members from our commercial, quality, and manufacturing functions
- Application of advanced analytical techniques to support intellectual property development.
- Mentor Lab Employees in analytical chemistry theory and best practices
- Maintains the confidentiality of proprietary information
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Ph.D. from accredited institution with minimum of 5 - 10 years industrial experience preferred. Master’s degree with extensive industrial experience considered
- Hands-on analytical method development experience in polymer characterization
- Ability to work collaboratively with team members of different professional and cultural background's
- Ability to communicate technical ideas in a clear and concise manner to non-technical team members
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to multitask and follow through on tasks
- Ability to develop custom analytical methods that are tailored to specific customer needs
- Understanding structure-property relationships of water-soluble polymers and their use in commercial applications
- Goal-Oriented, Self-starter
DESIRED SKILLS:
- Inventor or co-inventor on issued patents.
- Experience making data-driven decisions using Kaizen and/or Six Sigma
- Customer-facing experience
- Knowledge of ANOVA for ensuring robust analytical methods
- Polymer synthesis experience
- Good knowledge of sustainability and green chemistry
