What are the responsibilities and job description for the Swim Instructor position at SELA Aquatics?
Title: Swim Instructor
Part-Time, Seasonal Position
New Orleans Region (includes New Orleans, Metairie, or Kenner)
The Swim Instructor will teach private and/or semi-private lessons for students ages 3 and up at a facility managed by SELA Aquatics. Members of the facility will register through SELA Aquatics for lessons with the instructor. All lessons are taught on-site at the facility at times agreed upon by the instructor and parent/student. Instructors may only teach swim lessons for SELA Aquatics while employed by the company.
Swim instructors should promote a positive attitude towards swimming, creating an encouraging and motivational atmosphere for students. Swim instructors need good communication skills and be organized when scheduling lessons.
Job Duties:
- Communicate with parents of students for lesson scheduling, swimmer progress, etc.
- Evaluate student's initial swimming ability and determine appropriate skill level
- Plan and deliver lessons appropriate to the swimmer's level, focusing on skill development and water safety
- Demonstrate proper swimming techniques and strokes
- Provide feedback and correction to swimming skills
- Monitor student at all times to prevent accidents or injuries
- Ensure that participants abide by pool rules
Minimum Qualifications:
- Formal background in swimming, such participation on a swim team or previous swim coach or swim instructor experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification
